55We stopped at the sniff spot on our way home from a scentwork trial to do some nice decompression Adventures and I'm so happy we did! The sniff spot and Cathy are fabulous! We couldn't be happier that we did a little detour. We spent about 3 hours swimming in the pond, taking a few trails, running in The Big Field, and setting a couple scentwork hides in a novel environment. It was absolutely gorgeous and the pond was well kept and safe to get in! Cathy let us know about the rain the prior day and even gave us some towels because we weren't prepared for the mud from the rain. She met us and gave us a map and directions to the sniffspot area of her property. She was a fabulous host! Some of the trails were steep and slick from rain the night before making them a little dicey for me lol but they'd be steep but fine without rain (I also wasnt expecting the rain so wasn't in the BEST footwear for muddy hills--very slow descent and I stayed upright and not muddy lol lol). We opted to drive up to the pond and park up there. Again with the rain the night before there were some muddy and soft spots on the way up and I put my xmode on in the car. I drive a AWD vehicle and made it up without any problems but I would not have attempted it without AWD. You could certainly walk up the hill without a problem, but I wasn't feeling like a workout after a scent trial the day before, I just wanted to decompress as well, haha! There is no cell service in the area. We got a blip of cell service while driving to the spot on a road nearby and we actually had to stop on that road on the way back home to be able to get GPS maps up to wind our way home. This is really off the beaten path, but it was a gorgeous drive and although it's not close to my house, I'm definitely gonna make a day of it and come back again for a few hours every now and again!
55Awesome property! My dogs had a great time exploring the trails and playing in the fields. Will definitely come back in the future!
55Amazing spot! Well maintained trails and a beautiful pond. Our dogs had a great time running around and swimming. Lots of fun water toys available for the dogs to play with too. We’ll definitely be back!
55Great spot! The pond was perfect for the dogs to swim in and the trails were well kept.
55This is my favorite spot! The property is a little slice of heaven. My friend and I both brought our dogs and they had a wonderful day enjoying the pond and fields together.
55We took our puppy here for his first birthday. He is reactive to dogs and people and we had a wonderful time. It was very private and we didn't see anything to react to. The trails were a lot of fun to walk and it was a great first time off-leash hiking experience. The owner was very kind and gave us a handy map with useful tips for our first visit. Highly recommend!
55Cathy's place is awesome! I have been here before with friends and have always had a good time. It was a nice rainy day in the 60s which is great for July. Our dogs enjoyed the pond and the trails. It is so nice to have a place to hike and let them run without having to worry about other people and/or their dogs.
55What a wonderful property! The trails are easy to follow. The pond is amazing! My dogs and I had a great time!
55Cathy was super nice and met me before hand to explain the layout of their land. Alastair and I had a lot of fun. We were only there for about two hours. So we stuck to one place which was the pond. He’s never experienced the wilderness much so he was intrigued by the frogs moving. At the pond they had a dock with a diving board, so if you have dock divers, they’ll be in heaven. There were also some life vests. Anyway, I’m hoping to visit again soon!
55Very nice place, lots of space to explore, and quiet. My dog had a great time!

Partially Fenced

Fencing details: There is an agility area which is fenced. It is not a totally secure fence, though I plan to make it so in 2021. The only other fencing is around pasture areas to contain livestock.

Description

Our Sniffspot has been referred to as Dog Heaven. We are in a remote area in the Appalachian Foothills of SE Ohio. We have farm roads, mowed trails and open fields you and your dog can enjoy, but the favorite place for most dogs is our pond. Our pond features a dock that dogs love to jump off of. There is also a large covered pavilion with tables and chairs. A basket of water toys is next to the dock. There is an outhouse there and well, it is primitive, but clean (unless the mice make nests, but I try to keep ahead of that) In dry weather the pond is accessible by vehicle but it is also a good walk for people and dogs, about 1/2 a mile from the parking area (and mostly uphill). This pavilion also has our "Sugar Shack" attached, which is where we boil down maple sap in February and March to make syrup. The Maple Grove is up a trail above the pond. **My dogs swim in this pond most days in the spring, summer & fall. The pond has an aerator and also is treated with Pond Blue, both of which help to eliminate the possibility of dangerous algae blooms. There is also no fertilization of fields that could run off into the pond. **

There is wildlife here, from deer to coyotes. We do have a lot of briars, but there are cleared trails. Ticks are probably the biggest concern. There are ticks, including deer ticks. I have 2 Australian Shepherds, which I do agility with. I live on 200 acres in SE Ohio. I have signed on to be a host. My dogs are so lucky to have the property we have outside our door. I do believe in off leash exercise. I would like all dogs to be able to enjoy what mine do on a daily basis. I do not have experience with reactive dogs.
