45This was probably the best sniffspot that my pup and I have visited. The terrain was a good mix of hills, flat, and wooded areas. Lots of running, climbing, and sniffing went on. I went when it was dry but I could imagine that it could be slick going for humans if it was wet out - given the hills and a fair bit of bare ground. Wear shoes with a good tread regardless of the weather. Two minor criticisms- there aren’t any good steps leading from the upper part of the yard by the gate to the lower portions of the yard where the pup and I spent most of our time. Also when I went - following the recent sub-freezing weather - the water bowl and fountain were iced up. Luckily I brought some water and a bowl so my pup was able to drink.
55Huge fenced in yard with lots of areas to smell. This does seem like a well loved spot so most of the grass has turned to mud, especially on the left side where there is more space to run. Most of the yard is on a incline so if you’re looking for a flat yard this isn’t the place for you. Appreciated the water, treats (dog and human), and that there was a gate to block of entrance to the deck.
55Thank you for having us! The pups had a great time!
55Amanda’s yard was great for our 10 pup Silken Windhound get together/birthday party. They were very accommodating to us having multiple cars and even provided us with human snacks, dog snacks, and a water bowl. We are very appreciative that we were able to spend our pup’s first birthday at their yard! All of the dogs had a great time despite the rain and mud
55Awesome hosts, Mackenzie has so much fun here! Muddy but so worth it. New fence is great.
55Super cute terrain- love the creek feature! (Be careful when it rains- it’s slippery for humans- but the pups LOVE it!!!)
55Our pup had a fantastic time sniffing and zooming around this amazing yard!! We would particularly recommend this spot for large highly active pups. :)
55Amanda was great! My dogs were super muddy after running around and she helped me clean them off. The space was nice and big and my dogs enjoyed running around. Will definitely be coming again.
55What an amazing place for the babies to run, explore, chase, to just be dogs. The host had treats for dogs and their humans. Water for hydration and towels were provided in case they got a bit messy.... couldn't have asked for a better place. The babies were in their element. We'll come back!!!
25Not great for small dogs but my big dog had a great time. One of the Beagles broke out of the fence through holes and broken boards. Part of the fencing has missing sections of mesh. One smaller Beagle got under some infrastructure through holes in the wood. Overall, the structural integrity is falling apart. There were some cleanliness concerns as well with piles of poop near the bottom of the property. The water was really fun for them. There’s not really any grass (especially near the bottom) so it’s a big mud pit for the majority of the property. It needs some TLC and then it would be perfect.

Description

This yard sits on a corner lot that backs up to county property. It is largely forested with natural vegetation and landscape. We have a stream that runs through the property and the lower portion of the yard is shaded all day for you and your dog's comfort. The creek area may be difficult for small dogs to traverse but we have plenty of other space they can run in! Make sure to check out our "intentionally wild" corner where our dog enjoys pretending he is on the hunt (and gets his digging in). Please note that we keep our vegetation natural and have a large number of trees. We do leaf clean-up weekly in the fall but you will still see some leaves! 75% of fencing is 6ft and remaining 25% is 5ft. We back up to county land and our neighbors do not have dogs. No other yards are visible from our yard. The fencing allows you to see through if you look at the correct angle so you may be able to see people or dogs walking along the street.

Relaxing oasis in Alexandria

After living in a townhome in Old Town for 20 years with no yard or outdoor space, I decided to buy a new house. My dogs only exercise was walking on a leash or finding empty dog parks at strange hours. Although my dogs were well-behaved, I observed a lot of negative behavior from pets and owners in city dog parks and wasn’t comfortable letting my dogs mingle there. When I bought this house a couple years ago, I knew I wanted to create an oasis for my pets. My landscape architect clearcut 75 feet back into the woods, installed retaining walls to help level the steep slope on the side yard and planted lots of grass to create the perfect backyard. The property is on almost an acre, so the back of the fence is very private with a wooded area. Occasionally, you can see deer on their way to the creek and hear fox behind the fence, although that is usually after 11pm. There is a lot of privacy and nature to enjoy from the patio. The yard is bright and sunny in the morning and shady after 2 or so. Since my yard brings so much joy to my dogs, when my friend told me about Sniffspot, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share this dog friendly space with the community. There is always ample street parking right in front of my house. The 6 foot fence is reinforced with chicken wire to keep small dogs in and other animals out. The gentle slope is perfect for fetch to wear out high energy dogs faster. Lots of areas to sniff and explore. The entire yard is dog friendly with no pesticides or toxic plants. Water hose, dog bowl, toys, dog bags and trash can are provided. This yard was created for my dogs so all furniture is pet friendly and the dogs go wherever they want. I do try to keep them out of the fenced part of the garden (where the tacky yard art lives 😂) due to beer traps for the slugs but I don’t freak out when they jump the mini-fence. I don’t want any guest to feel any stress while visiting. Dogs will be dogs and normal dog behavior is expected. There is a fan next to the gazebo for warm days. The fan is plugged into a multi-outlet extension cord and you’re welcome to use both! If you’re into grounding, I never wear shoes when I’m in my yard. The yard is probably more than a quarter of an acre. The land that goes with my house is 1 acre. However, I don’t know how to measure the inside fence and I’d rather under promise and overdeliver. The entrance from the street is double gated, like a dog park, to prevent accidental escapes. Enjoy the gazebo and patio with dog beds for relaxing and shade. Surrounded by trees, the birds and fountain offer the perfect oasis to get away from high stress city living. Wednesday late mornings and early afternoons are blocked off for my lawn mowing company. Monday mornings, my dog poop pickup company services my yard. On Mondays, they usually come in the morning, but I don’t have a specific time. If you have a people aggressive dog, you may want to avoid this time since I don’t know when they will actually show up. I do pick up daily but have the service for anything missed as it’s a large yard with 3 dogs to track. If interested in hosting a party, I am open to a group of people and more dogs than the limit states. Send a chat to discuss details.
