55My two dogs enjoyed the beautiful and large fenced in yard. Plenty of trees to provide shade on warm days and sunny areas as well. There are comfortable Adirondack chairs to sit and relax for the humans. There’s also many toys for them to play with while visiting. They spent the whole time running around exploring and were tuckered out when it was time to leave. I highly recommend this sniff spot and will be back again soon.
45This was a fun spot for our dogs to run around. We couldn’t believe how many toys were available! Our dogs loved the tennis balls.
55My puppers love this place!
55We had a great time lots of space to explore! This was our first time using Sniffspot and it was exactly what we were looking for. Sherri was a great host and the water, toys and seating were a great touch. We will definitely be back!
55Perfect spot for you to relax and let your pup play & exercise!! Sadie had the best time! I love to see her so happy to play, fetch and run free!! We will definitely be back very soon!
55Could not recommend this spot enough it was amazing
55Always fantastic here. Maya loves the different areas to explore and the space to run.
55Loving the cool weather and well-maintained yard! Thanks for the hooman treats too! Sammy’s has everything pups and their hoomans could want!
55The fence was very secure and Sheri is very accommodating -- tons of toys, water, poop accessories -- everything you could think of! Yard is large enough that when neighbors were out and near the fence (maybe 10'-15' away from it), even my reactive dog didn't care!
55Another great day at Sammy’s playground!

IMPORTANT NOTE: though not anticipated to be a concern, before opening the gate and entering the yard, please take a look to ensure that our dog, Sammy (a large black Labrador / German Shepherd) is indeed not outside. Or us (your Hosts)! We absolutely adore Sammy and we have changed our lives to accommodate his unpredictable behaviors - reactive to dogs and people. He will always remain in the house during booked events of Sammy’s Playground. He doesn’t mind Guests playing and barking!

Other than my one abutting neighbor, dogs can be heard occasionally, off in the distance. My abutting neighbor’s dog, Brandi, is a timid golden retriever who is kept in her yard by an underground electric fence. Her “fence line” is about 15’ from the edge of our land/driveway. She has a mild bark and will not approach in any aggressive manner. She’ll more likely bark and run away. If Brandi is out, her family is home and would be readily available, if needed. ——- We have an indoor-only cat, Bella. Since she will not be visible to you or be a trigger to your dogs. Other domestic animals: because of the fence, it’s impossible for other dogs to gain access to the backyard. There is another golden retriever that lives several houses away and on rare occasions got loose. She’s always followed by her owner who is trying desperately to “retrieve” her. The dog is sweet.

Along one side of the property is a neighbor’s driveway and detached garage. They are a working couple with standard/ typical work days. They generally keep to themselves and head indoors once they’ve come home. They are pleasant and quiet folks. They will not be disturbed by your dog barking at them; though, we would greatly appreciate your efforts to stop this behavior for continued peace with our neighbors. Again, alongside our driveway and where the shed is, this neighbor spends many afternoons working around his yard. Sometimes they have their young grandchildren over playing in their backyard. This family is dog friendly, like the couple above, but we would appreciate that your dog(s) doesn’t excessively bother him/them. It should be noted that this will likely not be an issue for you as there are mostly small wooded areas between the properties hindering views.

Description

Come and play in Sammy’s Playground. There’s lots to do. With the entire 0.5-acre backyard fully enclosed by a new and secure chain-link fence (Fall 2022), your pups are free to roam, sniff, fetch and run to their hearts’ delight. And, wow… you are surely going to love watching them go!! Zoom-Zoom. The areas along the perimeter are wooded and make for fun pathways for explorations. The central portion of the yard is sloped and open. This makes for plenty of romping and heavy-duty running- including long throws of a ball or a frisbee. We have a tennis ball thrower. Check out all of the photos and read the accompanying descriptions to get a better idea of how Sammy’s Playground will appeal to you and your furry friends!! And don’t worry about the yard (too much). There’s divots and mounds all around, no manicured lawns when dogs are at play. Go for it guys… Enjoy!! And, the pool cover is elephant and dog proof. The dogs are allowed on the pool cover. It’s our hope that we do our absolute best to provide our Guests with the best experience each time they come over AND that our Guests remain as great as each have been - that we can continue to avoid any reason to raise our hourly rate. SniffSpot suggests we list Sammy’s Playground at $20/hour. We are uncomfortable with doing this, because it goes against the spirit of our objective for Sammy’s Playground in the first place: providing a safe and secure environment for dogs of all kinds to enjoy off-leash “true-dog” experiences with their loving humans. Barking IS allowed. We do welcome donations of dog food, p-pads and medications for the all-dog rescue organization, PAWS New England. PawsNewEngland.com for information about fostering, donating, adopting or other ways to support this amazing group. They save over 1,000 dogs per year. ——- NOTE: to open the gate, simply reach over the top to find the key. Twist/turn the key until it stops. Then, lift the knob on top of the gate and push the gate open… you’re in! The gate automatically closes behind you. Please confirm that it has engaged into the closed position and then turn the key to lock yourself in. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY. Confirm that you have locked yourself in by seeing the little red dot and not being able to lift the knob. The photos section includes views of the gate, key and lock. MUST: when you leave, lock the gate. Doubly ensure that you have done so by lifting the knob. NOTE: As an “Extra” listed benefit, you may park your vehicle in an area away from the main gate and take advantage of a leisurely stroll down the very-well-kept sidewalks of Park Street and adjoining neighborhoods. We list this as an Extra simply so that we know why we have a car in the driveway, but no humans and dogs in the yard. Selecting this Extra just gives us the heads up. This might be a good way to burn off that last little bit of doggy energy or for some leash training while you’re here. This is time AFTER your booked time of using Sammy’s Playground (not a part of it). We just don’t want you to run off without taking advantage of all the resources available to you for your dog(s).

Hazards

POOL IS CLOSED with a cover that can sustain the weight of an elephant AND dogs. The dogs can go onto the pool cover without any issues or concerns. Prolific amount of acorns are present on the slope of the backyard. We are having difficulty keeping up with removing them. We ask that you mind your footing in this area, in particular. We are doing our best with the leaves too. You may find it tricky to find your pup’s poop vs. the large brown oak leaves. Just do your best. FENCE: The fence is new’ish - Fall 2022. It is primarily 4-foot tall, chain-link fence. The gates at the Main and a side entrance are aluminum rods with ~4” spacing. This makes Sammy’s Playground not safe for dogs about 15 lbs or less. There is no separate fence around the pool. Pool cover is dog safe. YARD: The yard is for dogs and is not a manicured lawn. It is, after all, a yard for dogs. There are divots and small holes throughout the far back to which folks and pooches alike should be aware and careful. DECK: newly-painted, we’ve discovered that morning dew makes the deck surface quite slippery. Mind your footing. DECK: Stepping off the deck in the back is a big step. SHED: The main wood shed door should be closed. If left open, don’t let your dog(s) enter. There’s fertilizer and other lawn-care products in there. We apologize profusely if that door was left open. GATES: MUST ALWAYS BE CLOSED and LOCKED - It is extremely important that folks pay close and strict attention to ensuring that the mechanisms that keep the gates closed are indeed CLOSED and LOCKED.

Extras

After Playtime Stroll$0

Select this Extra so that we know why your car is here and you are not. After enjoying a fun-packed time in Sammy’s Playground, why not take advantage of the well-maintained sidewalks along Park Street and the many adjacent neighborhoods? The sidewalk is on our side of the street, set back from the road and is 3’ wide. Don’t forget your poop bags. And, we simply ask that you move your vehicle away from the main gate.

Additional rules

The most significant rule to follow is common sense. But, it is also expected that Guests will be respectful of our land and property, and that of our neighbors,’ and fellow Guests - keep all 4 gates locked at all times, especially when you are in the backyard. Do not enter Sammy’s Playground until you are sure no one is in the backyard, including us and Sammy. Do not remove the key. Make doubly sure that you locked the gate when you leave by pulling the knob up. If you are unsure, send a message ASAP so we may alert the next Guest - toss dog waste into our woods (not over the fence though) using one of the 3 sets of shovels and rakes or in the Poop Bank bucket - leave the property as you found it (return furniture to original places, put the toys away, hang wet towels, for instance) - do your best to protect the furniture, especially the cushions from getting dirty (use any of the towels) - report any damages or concerns. You will find that we are pretty easygoing and don’t get hung up on the little things. It’s more important that we know of a mishap or if something that is broken.

Hi, we’re Sherri and David… married for 36 years now and still going strong. We raised our two sons here, Justin and Mitch, and have had the pleasure to supplement our family with countless dogs and cats, and even a couple of indoor bunnies and a tortoise. We mostly adopt senior dogs, but this time we fell in love with an adult dog (now 6 years old). He is a big black lab/German Shepherd mix named Sammy (he’s a rescue from Texas, our 5th); hence, we named this Sniffspot “Sammy’s Playground” after him. Sammy’s unpredictable behavioral issues make him a poor candidate for any public playground. It’s for this reason that we created this private playground - so that dogs like Sammy can enjoy a safe and secure place to play, zoom, SWIM and sniff. It’s why we offer the play space for the affordable rate, because we are sensitive to folks having dogs like our Sammy. Thank you for considering Sammy’s Playground - where your dogs will think you’re pawsome! 🐾 *** As an aside, our volunteer work focuses primarily on collecting donations of dog and puppy food of all kinds for PAWS New England, a large, all-dog rescue organization, a 501(c)3. We will happily accept any donations from you on their behalf.
