The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, serving Fayette County, Texas (GJAS) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with 6 paid employees. GJAS is governed by a seven member, active, volunteer Board of Directors. GJAS receives a stipend from Fayette County and the municipalities within the county to care for the abandoned, neglected, stray dogs and cats in the county. The organization is primarily funded by donations, grants, and fundraising.
History
Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter was formed in 1994 as Fayette County Animal Shelter. The current facility was built in 2000, in large part, thanks to a generous donation from Gardenia E. Janssen. In 2008, the shelter was renamed in her honor. GJAS takes in on average 1,500 dogs and cats annually and we work tirelessly to enrich the lives of those in our care until we can find a new loving forever home.
Mission and Vision
To maintain and operate a humane animal care facility to provide temporary care to homeless, unwanted or displaced animals.
To keep and provide care to all animals admitted into the GJAS until appropriate placement can be made in an adoptive home. These animals will not be euthanized unless a serious medical or behavioral problem develops that cannot be resolved and as long as space provides.
To promote and carry out educational activities relating to the prevention of abuse and cruelty to animals and to the reduction of overpopulation.
To participate in those activities which are designed to promote the health and welfare of animals and to demonstrate in outreach programs the benefits of human-animal bonding and interaction.
To provide opportunities for all community members to participate in these activities through volunteer and foster programs.
To foster and support preventative health care and provide such services to the community as are justified by facilities, personnel and funds.

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
