55My pup had the best time here and loved the assortment of toys offered!
45This was our first sniffspot and it was a blast! There were a few areas that seemed like our dog should stay out of (under a large porch and some flower/plant beds) and there was a trap with cat food that she tried to get into but our dog is pretty laid back and listens pretty well so it wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for more curious/stubborn dogs. Overall it was a great experience and our dog loved the hose!
55Super spacious yard for my girl to run around in! We had a blast even though it was pretty warm. Like another reviewer said, insect repellant is recommended since it is by the water (and also they’re just so bad this year). We’ll definitely be back!
55This is my favorite sniff spot even though it is a 25 minute drive away and there are others closer to me. My dog just loves it. I like that there really aren’t other dogs in the vicinity for him to get distracted by. There are a couple across the alley we’ve seen maybe 3 times in all the times we’ve come here. Some sniff spots share a fence with a dog next door and it’s always stressful for me to manage my dog’s interactions with an unknown dog. There’s so much to explore in this yard for people and pets. I’ve been here all four seasons and will keep coming back with my dog - we always have a great time!
55We love it here! Spacious and beautiful yard with great amenities like extra dog toys, water bowl, and chairs.
55We wanted to find a nice place for my pup's birthday! She had a great time! The yard was a good size, picture were accurate , and the dogs loved exploring! The owners were so incredibly nice too! Made sure there were enough chairs for my human guests, left toys for us to borrow, and even gave my girl a birthday treats box! Even went above and beyond and left a cooler outside with some water (which was definitely appreciated since it was super hot outside). Thank you for allowing us to use your space!
55Really nice yard with plenty of toys and room for our dog to run around.
55It was very hot when went, with no breeze, so we didn't stay super long. Great spot with a good amount of room. There wasn't a ton of shade for the humans, but the dog had plenty of places he could lay and pant after chasing his ball! Great spot and we'll be back for sure!
55Beautiful yard and very spacious!
55The yard was fully fenced and we were left a bowl of water and toys! Nice and quiet yard. The dogs loved it!

Description

June update: we are somehow cicada free! Large yard right on the river. No access to the river (yard is fully fenced), but human views of the water, ducks, other birds, and wildflowers on the bank. Pesticide, and herbicide, free lawn but various flowers, shrubs (and weeds) on the edges. Lots of wildlife in the area. Birds visit, bunnies, squirrels, etc. more than your average Chicago yard. End of dead end with pretty good privacy. There are 3 big dogs at the house across the alley, but they are also well fenced. They are out on occasion, but usually not for long and I can’t guarantee their schedule. The view is mostly blocked by garbage cans and bushes, but not completely, so this may not be the place if your pup is super reactive. There are 2 Adirondack chairs, feel free to move around into sun or shade or lay out a blanket or whatever you need to be comfortable. There is stainless steel water bowl and some toys. Feel free to use the hose by the stairs to fill up the water bowl hose the dogs off or whatever. You can pull it out into the middle of the yard, just put your foot on top of the reel to get better leverage and please reel back in after use. Chain link fence on most and iron fence at front. Not ideal for small dogs or escape artists that can squeeze under or through fence. See photos for details of fence and if your dog would try to squeeze through.

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Extras

Dog pool$15

With at least 48 hours notice, and at least a 1 hour slot, add a small doggie pool to your fun in the sun. Pool is a collapsible, 31” diameter and about 7” deep. Pool will be filled about half way with the hose out to fill more or spray down. (Great for human feet too). Bring your own towels.

Notice: We are closing the spot on May 23rd for maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience. Grass and rain: Please keep in mind that during moderate to heavy rains the area without mulch can get muddy. Beginning May of 2024, we will post pictures daily to our Instagram account showing the condition of the spot. As you can imagine, due to the wear and tear the spot gets, it’s difficult to keep the grass alive. However, we do our best to reseed during the spring. BarkPark sits right across the street from The Salvation Army Freedom Center. This spot is fully fenced (chain link and wood) with the side facing the sidewalk being 5ft and the rest of the fence being 6ft. There is a dual-gate entrance to the spot for a safe entry and exit. Street parking is available. There is plenty of seating at this spot with shade throughout the day. There's a rain barrel filled with water for dogs to hydrate and cool down. We have water bowls available. GIANT sandbox that's great for digging and playing; no digging elsewhere please. On hot days, we do our best to keep the sand wet. Trash can onsite. We have poop bags available in two different areas for easy access. Half of this spot is covered with grass and the other half with playground mulch. This spot is big enough to get a good fetch session in or to just let the zoomies out. We also recently added agility equipment. We hope you and your four-legged friend/s have an exceptional time during your visit and choose to come back. Lost toys and items: Due to the amount of visits we get we aren’t able to track which items belong to which guest. If you’ve lost a dog toy or other item, please reach out and we’ll do our best to retrieve it and hold it for you. If you don’t reach out, we’ll hold onto it for a week and then add it to the Lost and Found Toy Box. Water: The dog drinking water gets changed 1-2 times per week, depending on the temperature/usage. During the winter months we empty the water barrel. If your dog/s require water during the winter months, we ask that you please bring your own. Food: You’re welcomed to bring food but we ask that you please clean up as a courtesy to other guests. Future additions: We hope to add more amenities over time. Our plans are to add more sand to the sandbox in late April or early May of 2024. We’re also hoping to have on-site parking around mid summer of 2024. If you have any suggestions for amenities, we’d love to hear your feedback.
