The City of Huntsville’s Dog Spot promotes responsible pet ownership and encourages the socialization of dogs to other dogs and people. CURRENT RABIES VACCINATION Rabies Vaccination are required by State Law and City Ordinance. Rabies virus is a disease that can be spread from dogs to humans. All dogs should be vaccinated annual by their veterinarian. OWNERS MUST SCOOP THEIR PET’S POOP All pet owners are encouraged to be vigilant and remove any and all feces deposited by their pets. Be respectful and do the right thing, “scoop your pet’s poop.” Poop stations are available in the small and large dog areas. You can even bring your plastic grocery bags from home to be re-used and housed in our recycled wooden bag holders DOGS MUST BE LEASHED OUTSIDE THE PARK AND UNLEASHED INSIDE THE PARK Dog behavior can be variable based on an attached leash. Please unleash your dog in the paddock area. Your dog will be more social if it is unleashed. If you are concerned, leave a 20 foot leash attached, but drop the leash. If your pet becomes aggressive, you can gain control quickly by grabbing the leash and removing your dog. OWNERS ARE ALLOWED TO BRING TWO PETS Many owners have several dogs that want to come to the dog park. We allow two dogs/per adult to ensure safety, yet a fun environment for multi-dog families. DOGS MUST BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES Please do not leave your dog unattended. Your dog is your responsibility, you must monitor its behavior and whereabouts at all times while inside the park. AGGRESSIVE DOGS SHOULD BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY To ensure fun and safety, aggressive dogs should be removed from the park. NO DIGGING ALLOWED Encourage your dog to spend its energy in other manners. Walk around the perimeter of the fence or throw a ball to encourage positive movement. Digging just leads to more mud! DOGS MUST BE FOUR MONTHS OF AGE TO PLAY To prevent the spread of contagious diseases, have your puppy vaccinated and bring your puppy to play after four months of age. FEMALE DOGS ‘IN ESTRUS’ OR ‘HEAT’ ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY Female dogs can be anxious and aggressive during their ‘estrus cycle.’ All dogs must be sterilized prior to their first birthday. Have your female dog spayed and bring her back to play. DOGS MUST BE STERILIZED BY A YEAR OF AGE TO PLAY Sterilized dogs are happier, healthier and better behaved and don’t contribute to pet overpopulation. Please discuss breeding with your family veterinarian.
