"I have interacted with CHA Animal Shelter in many different ways over the years. This organization has some of the most caring and hard working people you could ever hope to cross paths with. Whether volunteering, fostering, adopting, or seeing how far they go to help the animals in their care, it is always an A+ experience."

"We adopted Ollie ( formerly known as Pablo) 5 years ago from CHA. A friend of mine was fostering him and insisted that we meet him. He was brought to the shelter after his previous owners realized that the puppy life was more than they could handle. We adopted him. I’m so thankful that CHA gave him another opportunity for a good life. We adore him. CHA made sure that he was healthy, microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered before we adopted him."

"I have adopted from CHA, and am currently a volunteer there. The staff is very caring and attentive to all the pets’ needs. Though resources are tight, they always manage to take excellent care of the dogs and cats. It’s not the fanciest shelter in the area, but the staff are kind and conscientious, and they have a ton of local support."

"I have 3 pets that I have adopted from them. I will only adopted from them. They are very clean place, animals look happy, healthy. They have good prices and a very friendly place."

"I have volunteered for CHA Animal Shelter for over 27 years and loved every minute of it!! The facility and animals are well taken care of and the staff and volunteers are 100% dedicated to making a difference."

jana d.

Volunteer / foster

"Our family has been fostering pets through CHA Animal Shelter since 2019. Helping animals is something that both my children were passionate about, but were too young to volunteer at the shelter. They had participated in the Tales for Tails Summer Reading Program, but wanted to be more hands on. So we signed up to start fostering and it has been an amazingly rewarding experience. CHA is organized, responsive, and supportive. But the best part is that they do a fantastic job getting all animals adopted quickly. We understand that being in a foster home is just a part of each animal's journey and the goal is to have them find their forever homes. We are so happy to be a part of that!"

"CHA is a wonderful organization! I’ve volunteered caring for dogs for over 3 years and love the commitment the organization and its strong base of volunteers have to giving great care to homeless dogs and cats. I also adopted a great kitty from there!!"

beth k.

"This is absolutely one of the best animal shelters I've ever seen. They do a lot of things to help raise money for their shelter. My kids and I have done several of the 5Ks that they've done and they're absolutely well put together and wonderfully done. My youngest is just dying to be old enough to come volunteer at this place her and several of her friends will be there next year when they're old enough. And I do everything I can to help this place. And anybody that works there or volunteers there are absolutely the nicest people I have ever met they're so friendly and so helpful."

"I have volunteered for CHA since 2012 and I've adopted 2 dogs and 5 cats from them. The staff always treats their animals with dignity and respect and I'm proud to be a member of the volunteer team."

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
