I have volunteered at Animal Rescue Foundation for 31 years. I love the fact that it’s a no-kill shelter and 100% volunteer. Most of the volunteers work a full time job besides volunteering. We are there because we love animals. There are volunteers 365 days a year. We’re a real devoted team of caring individuals. The annual meals are treated as if they are our own. They get playtime in the big backyard and walked twice a day. Speaking for myself, I feel each one of the dogs is my own dog.

Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization built on the principle that all dogs are individuals. Our Foundation relies on science-based information on animal behavior and public policy, including breed-specific legislation and housing insurance discrimination, derived from our subsidiary National Canine Research Council, a think tank for science and public policy. AFF's team offers regional and national initiatives that support dogs and the people who care for them in their communities. Current AFF programs include our Old Friends program, which is an onsite and foster-based program that gives senior dogs in shelters across the country an opportunity to live out their lives in a loving home. Additionally, we have dogs on the younger side that are also apart of our adoption program, who've come to us to await their new homes while enjoying the farm life. Our Family Pantry program recognizes pets as family and, especially during tough times, provide a way to help pets stay with their families. Furthermore, AFF staff consult with animal shelters across the country on evidence-based, progressive and inclusive enrichment, training, marketing and adoption policies. We also provide toolkits and resources for best practices to governments and community organizations as well as animal shelters and individual dog owners.

Second chance is a shelter in Syracuse NY. It was started as a program where county inmates can train the dogs before they get adopted out. Covid changed a lot but through the pandemic they continued with their cause, pulling dogs from our overcrowded city shelter. I adopted my dog from them in May 2020. When he was found he was wondering alone and was so skinny. He was not doing well at the city shelter and was almost euthanized due to the stress and anxiety he had from being there, that’s when second chance stepped in. They make sure their dogs are a good fit with potential families, not just first come first serve. I am so grateful they saved my beautiful boy, he makes my life better daily. They continue to be a boots on the ground rescue and are struggling through the current issues with shelter overcrowding.

We were lucky to find our special needs girl from Northern Lakes. I remember my other half telling me "any dog but that one," as he was concerned that she was deaf, mostly blind and suffered horrific abuse as a puppy. We hadn't been dog owners in decades but I knew that SHE was our dog. We foster failed within two days. She is the goofiest, happiest dog that i have had the pleasure to be around. She's a neighborhood "favorite" as she loves everyone she comes across. Her special abilities don't keep her down. I will forever be thankful that Northern Lakes Rescue gave her the chance at a second life when other rescues thought she was beyond help. I'm honestly not sure if we rescued Lexi or she rescued us. She brings joy to our house every day.

It all began in 2004 when founder Holly DeRito showed up at NYCACC looking for a buddy for her dog. A staff member took her into the back where all the dogs that were going to be euthanized the next day were. The dogs the public didn't see. That night, she went home with seven dogs. From there, Holly began building her own rescue and network through housing these dogs with friends and family. After a few years, ACC had seen a huge improvement, so Holly expanded to transports with the help of some rescue friends. Waggytail Rescue now has partners in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, San Diego, Florida, and even Tijuana. Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (HVARS) is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue, wildlife rehabilitation center & low cost vet service clinic. Our mission started when we felt there was such a need to be able to bring affordable vet care to our community. In 2011 we opened our first low cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinic as a mobile hospital. Weekly we ran clinics out of our local Petco's parking lot where people were able to come and receive vaccines and affordable spaying & neutering services. From there we saw how much of an impact our services had on the community and how much we were needed. In 2015 we opened our stationary hospital that we run out of to this day. We renovated an old barn on our founders property and little by little made it ready to serve the community in so many ways. We are now a multi Vet facility that offers everything from wellness clinics to more complex surgeries, dentals, x-rays, bloodwork and more. We are so happy to be able to offer all these services and only wish to continue to grow and help more people and their pets. All of the money that comes through our clinic services is given right back to our animals that we take in, rescue, rehabilitate and adopt out. It is also used for the hundreds of wildlife we take in orphaned, injured or misplaced every year. We have 4 NYS wildlife & RVS licensed rehabilitators on staff and many other volunteering under our organization to nurse orphaned wildlife such as squirrels, raccoons, possums, skunks, fawn, fox and woodchucks.

    Animal Farm Foundation

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

All of our dogs are fixed, up to date on shots, heart worm tested and on preventative care while in our shelter. We pull these dogs from the over crowded city shelter to help free up much needed kennel space and prevent them from being euthanized due to overcrowding.
