My daughter adopted a pup named Sumter from Pawfect Match about 1-1/2 yrs ago and had wonderful things to say about this rescue group. We grew to love Sumter so much that we pondered the idea of adopting one of our own if it could be like him. Interestingly enough, it turned out that 2 of Sumter's sisters were still waiting for their forever home! My daughter helped set up a meet and greet in January 2023 and my husband & I traveled to NC. We returned to MD with his sister Clover and we are living our happily ever after! Pawfect Match was wonderful to work with, as was Clover's foster family. We are so happy to have her in our lives!

Courtney started Bullies 2 the rescue many years ago and I was fortunate enough to find her when I was scrolling through Facebook after the loss of my 2nd bulldog. I had gotten Rocky as a rescue and had him for 6 years before he unexpectedly passed away. Up until then, I didn't know about Bullies 2 the Rescue but I soon learned about the rescue, it's owner and founder and its great volunteers. If at all possible, they will do whatever it takes to save, treat, rehome and give a bulldog the best rest of it's life that is possible. Courtney works tirelessly and makes sacrifices so that no bulldog is turned away. I rescued my third bulldog, Trudy Sue, and immediately became a part of a much bigger world. Everyone will happily support a new bulldog parent and fundraiser for the Bullies still needing help. Courtney has a dream to have a facility that would be a place to treat and shelter bulldogs in their time of need. I don't know of anyone who deserves this more than Courtney and her rescue. Please strongly consider this rescue as your top rescue.

Buddy came to us in May 2020 as a 7 year old stray. He is my 3rd Jack Russell Terrier. He was anxious to run during the first 24 hours. After he realized that a nice fenced in yard and lots of walks were great; he made me his human. He settled in nicely and displayed impeccable house manners. We are grateful that he was rescued. Freedom Ride Rescue followed up on my references and completed the adoption quickly. Thank you FRR!

I first encountered this rescue several years ago, I had been brought a litter of kittens who were only a couple weeks old that were sick and failing to thrive. I was completely devastated and didn’t know where to turn so I started reaching out to rescues. The only one to respond was in a neighboring county and immediately told me to bring them to their vet for treatment. If not for their help, I would not have the one who survived seven years later. I ended up fostering a litter of babies for them since I had experience and they were so supportive and provided everything. Outside of my personal experience, they have been a lifesaver for my hometown. There are very few resources for people in Person County, especially when it comes to feral cats and TNR. Though they are out of Durham County, they have done TNR on hundreds of cats from Person County. I am an admin for our local Lost and Found Pets group, and have sent many people their way to try to stop the overpopulation problem. I can’t imagine how bad things would be if they weren’t always so responsive and willing to help with not only TNR, but emergency medical cases as well. Recently there was also a case in Person County where a litter of seven one year old pups were left to be put outdoors in the elements after the rescuer who had them suddenly passed away. The post was shared over a thousand times but no help came after over a month. I reached out to one of their volunteers, Jacky, and she immediately made contact with the friend who was housing them to go meet them. She coordinated with multiple rescues who all helped to vet and take not only all seven of the pups who needed help, but another as well. In addition, she helped multiple others from the same property that were also in desperate need as their caretaker was unable to properly care for them. It truly amazes me how much they are willing to help.

I am a fan/follower of both of these rescues. They both work tirelessly for dogs that no one else wants to help. The underdogs. Sky Sanctuary takes in dogs that are seemingly on the brink. With love and good medical care these dogs go on to find wonderful loving homes. PIPS takes in the dogs that are considered handicapped. They are disabled “pipabled” in some way. These dogs get the care and resources needed to live long healthy lives in loving homes. I am so wowed by the strength of the people running both of these organizations. ❤️

We had a vision of a rescue that takes in the most urgent pups dogs with special needs and medical cases in and around North Carolina. While our focus is special needs, we are inclusive of all dogs and our main purpose is to rescue as many dogs in need as we can. PIPs is a foster based rescue, this means that there is no brick and mortar location- all dogs are kept in someone's home. We depend on fosters that are willing to open their hearts and homes to help a dog transition on to a forever home. Foster homes are needed for special and medical needs but also for puppies, adult dogs and seniors that are not PIP-abled.

Heidi takes on some of the worse cases of neglect I’ve seen, Biggie was a dog that she took in after being shot in the face. She nursed him back to health. She has truly been an angel to many of the underdogs! Also If a family loves their dog and has an emergency situation she will pay for the vet care so that the dog can stay with the family. • Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption Logo

Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption

Saving Grace began in 2004 at a private residence and farm to bring adoptable dogs and loving homes together. North Carolina is one of the highest states for euthanasia in the country and our mission is to make an impact. Since beginning, we've placed over 30,000 animals, however the task is still daunting. Saving Grace partners with shelters with extremely limited resources where euthanasia rates are high across North Carolina to find adoptable dogs that just need a second chance. We also take a lot of dogs in need of critical care or in dire situations from them as well. Animals are chosen based on their adoptability as successful family members and Saving Grace strives to provide a more natural and non-traditional shelter environment for dogs to interact with others and exhibit their natural behaviors while awaiting their forever homes. Our Funny Farm setting allows adopters to mingle and interact with a variety of dogs and choose a new companion based on temperament and suitability for their home and family. Saving Grace is operated in majority by a hardworking and dedicated volunteer and foster base. This team is dedicated to finding an ever-changing but always special group of dogs an equally special family like yours. From intake to adoption, dogs are cared for by a support system of committed fosters and volunteers. Volunteer roles include everything from transportation, daily care, medical care, and everything in between to get them ready for adoption.

Emotional Rescue is a fantastic group who gives medical attention to any disabled stray dogs in their area and beyond. Most of these dogs would be euthanized if it weren't for them. They are so caring of each and every dog that comes to them. It really is an emotioal commitment and must be so very challenging for them seeing the condition these dogs are in when they come to their rescue. The dogs are very well cared for and it really shows. They get every bit of veterinarian care needed. Watching some of the transformations is mind blowing. I am very happy to be a devoted fan.

    Love Mutts Rescue

Love Mutts Rescue, Inc. (LMR) is a non-breed-specific dog rescue operating in central North Carolina and south central Virginia. We are a volunteer based, non-profit corporation run by a Board of Directors, and IRS designated 501(c)-3 charity. We rescue dogs in need from the surrounding communities, provide them with appropriate medical care, and place them in foster homes where they can be loved and nourished while they await their forever home. It is our goal to help all dogs that come into our rescue find the families that are destined to be theirs. Love Mutts Rescue was founded to provide a group of people an avenue to rescue animals from shelters. These shelters, and anyone who turns over a stray, can depend on LMR to provide these animals with proper vetting, nurturing fosters to care for them until they are adopted, and places to have adoption events so the rescue & the rescued can interact with potential adopters. We rely on volunteers to open their homes to foster, which is the only limiting factor to save more lives.

I guess we knew this was going to be our guy at the adoption event but The Kreitser folks made sure we took the time we needed to make the best decision for our family. • Shelter Dog Transport Alliance Logo

    Shelter Dog Transport Alliance

Shelter Dog Transport Alliance partners with over a dozen NC county shelter systems & beyond that are experiencing overcrowding and are in need of valuable space. Our aim is to work together to ensure every shelter dog gets a second chance at life. A recent study by Best Friends Animal Society has North Carolina ranked #3 for the highest shelter euthanasia rate, behind only California and Texas. In order to tackle this statistic we are currently partnering with animal rescues in New England as well as Canada to relocate our dogs to safety and into loving homes when our shelters become critically full. We decided to initiate this transport program because we never want to have to euthanize any of our shelter dogs because we simply don't have a place for them. We need to reduce overcrowding in our shelters so that we always have room to compassionately care for abandoned or neglected animals. Because of space limitations, many of our shelters have waitlists for people wanting to surrender animals. This has sadly led to the regular practice of individuals dumping helpless puppies, elderly animals, or animals that are simply unwanted by roadsides or empty fields. Our ultimate goal is to save lives, however, as we do so we are simultaneously working towards addressing the root causes that lead to our shelters being overcrowded. The Shelter Dog Transport Alliance is a life saving partnership that will not rest until our State is no longer a deadly statistic. The Shelter Dog Transport Alliance is an all-volunteer 501c3 animal transport program based in Asheville, NC and has safely relocated more than 8,000 shelter dogs & cats since 2020. We also provide foster care, medical services and shelter mentorship.
