We lost 2 bulldogs from CA last year. We found Bullies2theRescue on Facebook and we haven’t looked back. We have worked with 3-4 different rescues over the last 20 years and never have I seen one that is run with such a vast, caring network of people. Courtney puts her entire life and retirement into this rescue. We started fostering and have since foster failed on 3 babies. I’m not quite sure what else I could say about this well oiled, incredibly caring machine of a rescue. It’s like a huge family and I’m glad to be a part of it. They should win hands down!

I was a vet assistant at a hospital that served Freedom Ride Rescue’s dogs. They were by far one of the best rescues I have ever worked with. The quality or care and compassion they provide to the dogs they save is unmatched. I ended up adopting a dog from them and even as an adopter they were so amazing to work with. Since rescuing my first dog at the age of 18, I have known I wanted to foster dogs and be involved in rescue somehow. In 2019, I was finally in a position to be able to foster but had a negative experience with another group trying to match me with dogs that were not a good fit for my home. Luckily a friend recommended that I reach out to Mountain Pet Rescue Asheville, and it has been a wonderful experience. The group really values their volunteers and fosters and works hard to make sure they are setting both the pets in their care and the people taking care of the animals up for the best success. I have fostered about 40 dogs with MPR over the past 5 years, including two “foster fails” that I couldn’t let go. I am proud to know the women behind MPR and inspired by their dedication to helping animals in our community.

I've been a social media volunteer with USDCR since August 2021 and it has been an amazing journey to work with Wilma (our founder). She wholeheartedly advocates for dogs and always has the dog's best interest at heart. As a young rescue it's challenging to not only get fosters to step up, but fundraising presents it's unique struggles as well. Her passion for homeless dogs from Creel, Mexico is so inspiring, especially since the homeless dog population in Mexico is staggering. Our rescue partners have a tight relationship which is a huge benefit to saving dogs. Domestically, our area shelters are full, many dogs are being surrendered, and we bring in cases where the need is greatest, such as the recent hoarding/backyard breeding situation we saved 4 dogs from. Being recognized through this contest would be a huge win for us to continue to build our following and save more dogs.

I signed up as a volunteer to attend to cats in a pet store one evening a week. Little did I know a few weeks in, a lost dog would run in front of the car in front of me. We stopped and he came right to us. Even though I hadn't been with IAR for long, I reached out to them for help and guidance with this dog. JJ, Wendy and Alexandra have been so helpful guiding me through the process so we can keep him safe and take him into IAR to find him a permanent, loving home. He's very sweet except when in a crate and scared. Had he gone to the shelter and not been 'pulled', I don't think he would have survived. I'm learning so much about the process of rescuing dogs and what it takes for a program like this to be successful and do what they do. I'm so proud to be associated with them and begin my journey helping animals.

I am a fan/follower of both of these rescues. They both work tirelessly for dogs that no one else wants to help. The underdogs. Sky Sanctuary takes in dogs that are seemingly on the brink. With love and good medical care these dogs go on to find wonderful loving homes. PIPS takes in the dogs that are considered handicapped. They are disabled “pipabled” in some way. These dogs get the care and resources needed to live long healthy lives in loving homes. I am so wowed by the strength of the people running both of these organizations. ❤️

While our focus is special needs, we are inclusive of all dogs and our main purpose is to rescue as many dogs in need as we can. PIPs is a foster based rescue, this means that there is no brick and mortar location- all dogs are kept in someone's home. We depend on fosters that are willing to open their hearts and homes to help a dog transition on to a forever home. Foster homes are needed for special and medical needs but also for puppies, adult dogs and seniors that are not PIP-abled.

Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption

    Chapel Hill

Saving Grace began in 2004 at a private residence and farm to bring adoptable dogs and loving homes together. North Carolina is one of the highest states for euthanasia in the country and our mission is to make an impact. Since beginning, we've placed over 30,000 animals, however the task is still daunting. Saving Grace partners with shelters with extremely limited resources where euthanasia rates are high across North Carolina to find adoptable dogs that just need a second chance. We also take a lot of dogs in need of critical care or in dire situations from them as well. Animals are chosen based on their adoptability as successful family members and Saving Grace strives to provide a more natural and non-traditional shelter environment for dogs to interact with others and exhibit their natural behaviors while awaiting their forever homes. Our Funny Farm setting allows adopters to mingle and interact with a variety of dogs and choose a new companion based on temperament and suitability for their home and family. Saving Grace is operated in majority by a hardworking and dedicated volunteer and foster base. This team is dedicated to finding an ever-changing but always special group of dogs an equally special family like yours. From intake to adoption, dogs are cared for by a support system of committed fosters and volunteers. Volunteer roles include everything from transportation, daily care, medical care, and everything in between to get them ready for adoption.

    Chapel Hill

Love Mutts Rescue, Inc. (LMR) is a non-breed-specific dog rescue operating in central North Carolina and south central Virginia. We are a volunteer based, non-profit corporation run by a Board of Directors, and IRS designated 501(c)-3 charity. We rescue dogs in need from the surrounding communities, provide them with appropriate medical care, and place them in foster homes where they can be loved and nourished while they await their forever home. It is our goal to help all dogs that come into our rescue find the families that are destined to be theirs. Love Mutts Rescue was founded to provide a group of people an avenue to rescue animals from shelters. These shelters, and anyone who turns over a stray, can depend on LMR to provide these animals with proper vetting, nurturing fosters to care for them until they are adopted, and places to have adoption events so the rescue & the rescued can interact with potential adopters. We rely on volunteers to open their homes to foster, which is the only limiting factor to save more lives.

Emotional Rescue is a fantastic group who gives medical attention to any disabled stray dogs in their area and beyond. Most of these dogs would be euthanized if it weren't for them. They are so caring of each and every dog that comes to them. It really is an emotioal commitment and must be so very challenging for them seeing the condition these dogs are in when they come to their rescue. The dogs are very well cared for and it really shows. They get every bit of veterinarian care needed. Watching some of the transformations is mind blowing. I am very happy to be a devoted fan.

Second Chance Pet Adoptions is amazing, I started as a volunteer years ago and loved them so much when a position came available I jumped on the opportunity. They take time to work with each family to ensure the very best match, they hand assess and select dogs from small rural shelters locally to them which ensures all funds raised stay in their communities. Animals are cared for from start to finish and adopters become family!

Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption

Four years ago, I started a search for a “friend” for my dog but ended up with my own best friend. Jules had been abandoned on the side of the road in SC but had the good fortune to be rescued by Pawfect Match. She was cared for, made to feel safe, and loved by her foster family for a couple of months before I was lucky enough to adopt her. The honesty of Pawfect Match’s adoption bios was greatly appreciated when I was searching. They truly want the best homes for their dogs. Jules is my guardian, hiking buddy, and best girl. Thanks to the excellent care of Pawfect Match when rescued, I have the best dog one could ask for.

Atticus was brought into Freedomride as a 4 month old puppy that was found as a stray. He had cuts in his face and an eye scratch, and Freedom Ride got him treated for it. He doesn’t even have scars! My husband and I adopted him at 6 months and the foster family he was with took such good care of him. He was semi-potty trained and working on basic obedience. They had a blanket for us, a letter telling us how wonderful he was, and toys when we first brought him home. The neutering procedure was scheduled and taken care of for us. Everything was easy! No we get to post updates on the alumni page and keep his foster family in the loop with what a wonderful boy he is.

The first step is to fill out our adoption application. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Once we receive your application, the second step will be for our volunteers to check your vet reference and talk with your personal references. The third step, if your application is approved, is for our volunteers to contact you about scheduling a home check. This is not to see what kind of house you live in or how clean or dirty it is. It is simply to see if the yard size, fencing, etc. is compatible with your dog of interest. It also allows other animals in your household as well as children to meet your potential new dog to see if everyone will get along and to make sure this is truly a 'pawfect' match! After all three of these steps are completed, the final step is to sign the adoption contract and make the adoption donation fee. Your new pet will be up to date on the necessary vaccinations required by the age of the dog at time of adoption, spayed or neutered, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick meds, micro-chipped, groomed, and well on his or her way with basic obedience and house training. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
