Mary's Dogs - Rescue & Adoption
Through every step of the rescue and adoption, connections are made between people, cultures, and dogs. Our community is extremely grateful for the supportive network that embraces us.
Thank you to our partners in the south, our team, and all our adoptive families for being‚ the Hero in a dog's life.
Why adopt a Mary's Dog? All dogs deserve a chance to find a loving and caring home. Many are abandoned or neglected or never given the chance of a good life. As soon as our dogs are in the care of our southern partners, they are treated as family members while awaiting transport to New Hampshire. Our professional team begins caring for the dogs as soon as they arrive at our state-licensed facility to ensure the dogs successfully transition into forever homes. We provide specialty collars and leashes, yummy treats, toys and even homemade chicken stew. The dogs are examined by our veterinarian and then microchipped.
Once they are granted a NH Health Certificate and observed by our dog savvy rescue team, they are ready to be loved by you! We know our dogs. It's important you find the right dog for you and your family. We want all our adoptions to be successful and are available to answer your questions before and after you've brought your dog home. Please keep in touch! Join our growing community of dog parents and best friends. Come to one of our events, ‚learn about dogs, buy a dog a gift ,share photos!
We love every dog we rescue. Good dogs make best friends. Will you be the Hero in a Mary's Dog's life?

Old Dogs Go To Helen
#98 in United States, #4 in New Hampshire, #3 in Manchester
We are the St. Pierre's. Helen and Jake, and our daughters Grace and Evelyn. We absolutely love animals and Helen runs and owns a professional dog training business and facility, so our dogs are thought of as members of our family. We have dogs, cats, parrots, rats, a tortoise, pigs, and a horse all at home with us.
Helen started fostering dogs when she began training, over 18 years ago, and gradually discovered over time the desperate need for willing fosters and organizations that supported senior dogs. One by one, she began taking in senior or hospice dogs, and giving them the care they needed and a soft place to land until they were ready to pass on. In return, they taught her more in just a few months than she could have learned in a lifetime without them.
Now, we take senior or hospice dogs into our home and give them the retirement they so deserve. We also actively support, foster when needed, and help care for other senior, hospice or special needs dogs all over the country, in shelters and in rescue. Our mission is to show others how much a senior dog can enrich a home, make a wonderful companion, and give the gift of unconditional love, no matter how long their time is with you. Even if you can't bring one into your home, you can still help and support our mission! We are a registered 501(c)3 with the state of New Hampshire.

LRHS has been providing a safe and compassionate shelter for lost, abused or unwanted animals since 1995. Our mission is to care for cats and dogs in need until they can be adopted, and to promote their health and welfare through community outreach and education.
Formally located at the Winners Circle Farm in Tuftonboro, NH, a facility once used to home greyhounds for racing, LRHS relocated to an old farmhouse on Old Route 28 in Ossipee in 2005, that was transformed into the Lakes Region Humane Society you see today. In July of 2015 we celebrated our 20th Birthday as an Animal Welfare Organization!
LRHS works with the surrounding towns of Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Wolfeboro, Wakefield (Sanbornville, Union, Brookfield), and Effingham to take in pets who are surrendered by their owners or brought in as strays. LRHS ensures that once a pet is checked into our shelter, he/she receives quality food, shelter, grooming, enrichment, medical assistance and love while we seek out a perfect forever home for him/her. Every pet adopted out from LRHS is fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered and healthy.
