Dog Park at Southern Community Park

Dog Park Rules When using the dog parks please follow these rules of behavior: • Dog owners must be 12 years or older or be supervised by an adult at all times while in park • Dogs must be at least 6 months old • Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the park • Dog owners must have leash in hand at all times • Dogs must be under voice control at all times while in the park • Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs while the dogs are using the park • Dog feces must be cleaned up by owners • Dog owners must fill in any holes created by their dogs • Dogs must be removed from the dog park at the first sign of aggression • Female dogs in heat are prohibited from the park Please remember that the our dog parks are the Town’s only leash-free dog run area. Dogs using all other parks, trails, greenways, or open space areas must be on a maximum 6-foot leash. In addition, dogs are prohibited from entering athletic fields.

We have a fully fenced in yard. There is one gap, but we have covered it with cinder blocks. It is a 6 ft privacy fence, so you shouldn’t see the neighbors. One set of next door neighbors has a dog that is occasionally out. Please keep dogs on leash when outside of the yard. Thank you! Out in the yard there will be balls for your pup to play with, a water bowl, and a hose. We can also set up a tent we use for vendor events when it’s sunny or raining for shade/coverage. Just let us know in advance. There is also shade from a large tree in the yard. If you need a dog first aid kit, we will have one in the house along with things like water for humans, snacks for pups and humans, and a restroom for humans to use. If you need a towel for your pup, let us know, and we’ll be glad to give you a dog towel to use. We will bring things out to you. These are only available if we are home. Street parking is available at all times. You may park in the driveway, but please ask first in case one of us is going to have to leave (or coming back) while you are there.

Dog Park Rules • Dogs using the park must be registered with Durham Parks and Recreation, and meet all Dog Park requirements; entry into the park is only allowed for dogs with a Dog Park tag. • Dogs shall have on a collar with their current Dog Park Tag and updated rabies information at all times while in the park; no prong, spiked or electric collars allowed. • Dogs are not allowed into the park if they are younger than 3 months, in heat, sick, or routinely aggressive. • Dogs must be under the control of their owners at all times. Any dog behaving aggressively must be immediately controlled or removed from the park. Owners are responsible for any damage or injury caused by their dogs while in the park. • Owners are required to clean up after their dogs, inside and outside the fenced area. • No other animals are allowed inside the dog park fenced area. • No more than 3 dogs per person at any one time. • It is not recommended for children to enter the park. Children under the age of 12 may not enter the park unless under the supervision of an adult. • Spectators should remain outside the fenced dog park area. • No large dogs in the small dog area; no small dogs in the large dog area. • Food and alcoholic beverages are not allowed within the fenced dog park area except for events approved through a dog park permit. • Smoking including e-cigarettes is not allowed on any City park property. • Dog food in bowls or long-lasting chews is prohibited in the dog park area. Dog treats within the fenced dog park area should be given with caution, as some dogs may be food aggressive. • Dog Toys, including but not limited to tennis balls, ropes, or Frisbees, are highly discouraged. Any toys brought into the dog park must be taken out of the dog park upon your departure. Any toys left in the dog park are subject to disposal. • Owners must repair holes or disturbed areas created by their dogs. • Dog bites must be reported; owners should exchange contact information and call the Durham County Animal Control (919-560-0900) and DPR (919-560-4355). • Dog Park users must immediately leave the fenced dog park area when requested to do so by Durham Parks and Recreation Staff or law enforcement personnel. • Professional dog trainers may not use the park to conduct their business. • Bicycles, rollerblades, skates, skateboards, and strollers are prohibited within the fenced dog park area. • All Durham County and North Carolina ordinances apply within the Dog Park. Dog Park at Apex Nature Park

Dog Park Rules Owners who fail to abide by rules and regulations are subject to loss of park privileges. • Dog Park Permits are required and may be purchased at the Apex Community Center. • Park is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. • Dogs shall have on a collar with ID, and must display rabies vaccination tags at all times. • Spiked collars prohibited. • Each adult may have a maximum of 2 dogs at a time in the park; all dogs must be registered on your park membership with proof of vaccinations. • Any dog with a history of aggressive behavior is prohibited in the park. If your dog shows signs of aggressive behavior after entering the park, you must remove the dog from the park premises immediately. • Owners are responsible for any injury or damage caused by your dog. Prevent injuries by supervising your dog at all times. Never leave your dog unattended. If your dog inflicts an injury, give your name and telephone number to the other dog owner before leaving. You are at all times solely responsible for your dog's behavior and any damage your dog may cause. • Pick up poop – Scoop your dogs' poop and dispose of it in the containers provided. • Female dogs in heat are not allowed on the premises. • No food (animal food or people food), treats, or bones are allowed inside the fenced area. • No littering: wrappers and other litter can be eaten by dogs and cause a choking or digestion hazard which can be life-threatening! • No smoking inside the dog park. • No strollers, bicycles, tricycles, big-wheels, wagons, roller-blades, etcetera are allowed in the dog park, except wheelchairs used by people with physical challenges. • Shoes must be worn at all times. • Children 10 and under are not allowed inside the fenced area. • Dogs under 6 months of age are prohibited. • Use at own risk. • All bites must be reported by contacting the Apex Police Department at (919) 362-8661 and Apex Parks and Recreation at (919) 249-3402 as soon as possible.
