Dog handlers are responsible and liable for the actions and behavior of their dogs at all times. Failure to control your dog will result in permanent expulsion from the dog park. Users of the dog park do so at their own risk. Dog handlers must be 16 years or older or be supervised by an adult at all times. Children 8 years and under are not allowed in the off-leash area; children ages 9-15 years must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be properly inoculated and healthy, free of contagious conditions, diseases, and parasites. No puppies under 4 months of age allowed in the dog park. Dogs must wear a collar with current city or county license, and ID tags (Animal Control will be checking). Handlers must remove any pinch, prong, or spike collars before entering fenced area. Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the dog park. Dogs should not be on a leash once inside the dog park fence. No more than 2 dogs per handler. Dogs must be within sight and voice control of their handler at all times. Dog feces must be cleaned up and discarded by handlers. Dogs showing aggression must be immediately removed. Female dogs in heat are prohibited. Food of any kind – for dogs or humans – is prohibited. Glass containers are prohibited. Tobacco of any kind, drugs or alcohol are prohibited.

Dogs shall not be allowed to bark incessantly or to the annoyance of the neighborhood. Aggressive dogs are not allowed at any time. An aggressive dog is defined as any dog posing a threat to human beings or other dogs. Failure to abide by any of these rules may result in the owner and his or her dog being prohibited from future use of city dog exercise area. If such owner is a resident of the city, their dog must be inoculated and licensed in accordance with sections 14-44 and 14-45 of the city code prior to visiting this dog exercise area with said dog. If such owner is not a resident of the city, their dog must be inoculated with an anti-rabies vaccine that is in accordance with the latest edition of the Compendium of Animal Rabies Control issued by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians, Inc., and display evidence that such dog has been inoculated and otherwise duly licensed within its home municipality prior to visiting this dog exercise area with said dog. No child less than 18 years of age shall be permitted in this dog exercise area unless accompanied by an adult. No owner shall have a dangerous dog as defined in Section 3.2-6540(A) of the Code of Virginia in this dog exercise area. No owner shall have a dog that is less than four months old in this dog exercise area. No owner shall have a dog that is not in said owner's view and under his or her voice control in this dog exercise area. No owner shall have a female dog in season in this dog exercise area. No owner shall have a vicious dog as defined in Section 3.2-6540(A) of the Code of Virginia in this dog exercise area. No owner shall have more than two dogs in this dog exercise area. Owners shall promptly clean up any feces deposited by their dog and place said feces in a waste receptacle.

This was our first experience with SniffSpots. Neighbors recommended this as one of their favorite places. I can see why! The fields and mountain views are so beautiful. Bear and I had another fantastic day at Michele’s! She went above and beyond to accommodate my last-minute booking and request for pool pasture access. Although the pasture was home to sheep and other livestock during our time slot, Michele graciously relocated them to a different area so my dog and I could enjoy the space we wanted without hesitation. I’m pretty sure my dog had one of his best days today, romping over the whole space here at Amanda’s. He’s not a swimmer, but he loved splashing in the creek - although that might also be because he had a bath two days ago! I did three laps of the trails while my dog did about 27. He was thrilled to be able to run and explore as he pleased! My dog is dog reactive, so I asked Amanda to keep her dog in and we never even heard a peep. There is one bordering neighbor at the back of the woods with dogs, but they were securely fenced and we merely heard a bit of barking. It was such a joy to see my dog be able to freely run off leash, living his best life, without worrying about a negative encounter. (Joy for him and joy for me!)

This was my first Sniffspot and I appreciated Amanda's sweet welcome message and encouragement to enjoy the space. Everything was great! I loved how close we were to Charlottesville shops (esp Trader Joe's!) and it was an easy stop on a road trip to walk and picnic with our dog. Lots of room to walk × my dog enjoyed dunking herself in a little watering hole part of the stream (stream was dry at time if our visit). We mostly walked with a long line after an inadvertent deer chasing. My dog came back to her whistle recall and we did not test it again.

Are dog fields safe?

If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, distracted dog owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private space for just you and doggy friends you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). Especially for training, privacy is ideal. What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?

We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?

No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
