55We were so surprised to see cute birthday decorations throughout the sniff spot. I casually mentioned that we were having a birthday celebration for our dog. :) Stephanie went out of her way to welcome our dog and us. Our dog really enjoyed it. We were able to practice recall and he was able to play with his friend in an open space.
55My dog loved running around the grassy areas, exploring the trails and wading in the stream! It was very private and we didn’t see any people or animals during our visit. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

three of the neighboring properties have dogs. if your dog is reactive this is not a good fit and you should not book as this area is not contained, potentially leaving a reactive dog neither leashed nor under voice/remote control, and freely able to escape poses an unacceptable risk to my neighbors, their children, and their pets. my adjacent neighbor has a dog that she keeps contained in her yard either on a run or kenneled in her front yard. my bordering neighbors are all very friendly and conscious of the use of my property being used as a sniffspot. the property lines cannot be crossed by guests and their dogs, as permission to access their property is not permissible. this is a residential area and they may be on their land with their own pets and children at any time - potentially within a few feet as my property borders several others.

there are horses across the six mile creek that are fenced in by an electric fence. we will sometimes see goats there as well. the horses are visible in the fall/winter months more than spring/summer months when the trees have grown up.

there is a gentleman that lives in a camper across the creek who tends the horse farm and we will sometimes see a family hiking near the strawberry field nearby, if you do see them you will first faintly hear their voices giving you ample time to move away from the creek if this will interfere with your visit. two times since i’ve owned the property (2016) i’ve encountered an angler fishing his way down the creek. they didn’t stick around long because the dogs were swimming in the water. if your dog is reactive this will not be a good fit as this area is not contained, potentially leaving a reactive dog neither leashed nor under voice/remote control, and freely able to escape posing an unacceptable risk to my neighbors, their children, and their pets or anglers/swimmers walking the creek. aggressive dogs/history of biting/attacking people/animals are not welcome.

Description

Currently closed as we renovate! Explore Doggone Gorges 5.48 acres of pure bliss! Enchanted woods complete with Ithaca’s six-mile creek access for cooling off. Lay a blanket down, have a picnic, play fetch, splash around in the creek, or just take a stroll on our beautiful trails. Whether your dog is a sniffer, a fetcher, or a swimmer this is the perfect spot! This is the ideal place to practice recall with your dog while you explore nature in the most magnificent way. I have a cupboard of goodies to use as you wish, please help yourself before you hit the trails. If you do borrow something please make sure to sanitize and replace it before leaving. I provide biodegradable/disposable bags available to assist in cleaning up after your dog. Please help keep the spot beautiful by picking up after yourself and your pup. In the summer, I try to have a tent set up alongside the creek (weather permitting/keep rock in place so the tent stays grounded) so your dog can sit and relax in the shade if they wish while you enjoy your time taking in the scenery, or while relaxing in the hammock. We also have chairs for our human guests down by the creek. Please be mindful to stay within the boundaries of the property lines shown on the map (we strongly suggest downloading a free trial of OnX Hunt before your visit to help keep you within the boundaries). There are limited trail markers along the paths. My bordering neighbors are all very friendly and conscious of the use of my property being used as a sniff spot. The property lines cannot be crossed by guests and their dogs, as permission to access their property is not permissible. Please use extra caution during hunting season from October-December (preferably you and your dog should wear bright colors) in the event that there are hunters adjacent to the property. NO HUNTING is allowed on the property at any time. Cell phone service isn’t great but there are a few places to connect. There is a Bluetooth speaker to connect to if desired. Please select Alpine Corporation. There is no bathroom on site, so please make sure to use the potty before your arrival. Trash cans and Recycle bins are on the premise. Please throw away any garbage on your way out (including poo bags). Litterbugs will not be welcomed back. If you see a time blocked that you would like to visit, please contact me. I block time for myself and family events however my schedule may be flexible. If your dog is reactive please do not book as this is not a good fit. This area is not contained, potentially leaving your dog neither leashed nor under voice/remote control, and freely able to escape poses an unacceptable risk to my neighbors, their children, and their pets and I will not take this risk. I prefer to meet guests on the first visit to show you the property lines and answer any questions you may have.

Hazards

Like with most woods, there are pricker/thorn bushes located in the brush areas on the property, and roots/rocks that may be a tripping hazard if you are not paying attention. We walk our two dogs during blocked hours. It’s rare that I've ever seen another person on the trails within the boundaries as it’s private property. Keep in mind that living in a rural area in the middle of the woods you may come across many different kinds of native wildlife and insects, including but not limited to deer, rabbits, bear, fox, porcupine, turkey, quail, turtles, snakes, ticks, and mosquitos. I’ve only seen a turtle and rabbit once, but it’s important to remind guests of the possibilities in the country. This spot has a water feature, make sure to review these guidelines for visiting spots with water before visiting: https://help.sniffspot.com/article/167-how-to-keep-your-dog-safe-around-pools-and-water

Extras

Firewood$5

Tompkins County has an annual burn ban in effect from March 16 through May 14. Due to the increased risk of wildfires, we cannot allow fires at this time. Thank you for understanding.

Structured dog playdates$10

My dogs are socialized and frequently visit the dog park and enjoy a good time at a doggie birthday party. In the event that you wish to have your socialized dog have a structured playdate, I can arrange for Milo and Murphy to be present.

I was raised in San Diego and moved to Ithaca in the late ’90s. I’ve two children and two Chocolate labs. I’m a Medical Practice Manager at the local hospital and Sam is a bricklayer in Rochester, NY. When we are not working we enjoy hiking, traveling with our Airstream, gardening, and photography as we explore the Finger Lakes. Growing up I was never, at least consciously, a dog lover and I certainly, never expected to own a dog. My youthful years were focused on nurturing my daughters preparing them for their adventures, now that they've grown up our dogs Milo & Murphy fill our days with purpose and happiness. We now wonder how did we ever live without a dog before? Our dogs are with us everywhere we go. We love all things outside and all things dogs!
