55Excellent spot! Evergreen Oasis is definitely a fitting name. It’s a mini forest hike, a swimming hole, and a fetch field all in one!The pond isn’t very large, but it’s big enough for a dog to splash in and cool off. The trees in the back half of the property offer a sense of privacy and protection from the sun. In the front is a field large enough for chuck-it fetch. The homeowners’ dogs were not visible or audible even when my own dog was barking, but their scent in the grass provided tons of opportunity for my dog to sniff and for us to practice “leave it” with dog smells. The homeowner was polite enough to leave out a bucket of outdoor toys for us to play with as well, which came in very handy when I forgot our ball!
Cons: If you plan to allow your dog in the water, be prepared for a bath afterward! The mud is very thick and sticky. Even with a rinse of my dog (whose coat normally sheds debris without so much as a brush) needed a proper shampoo afterwards. The neighbor dogs on the right side of the property were able to be heard and seen from a distance behind a fence. They’re very easy to avoid if you stick to the other side! The chickens are visible, but quiet and with the large property they’re also easy to avoid. The one thing that really gave my dog trouble is the scarecrows in the garden—he didn’t know what to make of them! The garden beds are relatively well fenced, except for one small one in particular with a 1-2 foot plastic mesh fencing that could be troublesome for a large or determined dog—but again, there is so much space that your dog can still run and roam and never need to approach that fence. The landscaping near the house may be tempting for sniffy dogs, as that seems to be where most of the resident dog scents are. There are also occasionally people walking past the front entrance gate. Overall I highly recommend! This place would be great to bring a small group of dogs, with plenty of room for everyone to have their own space when they need.Alex B.

55My doggo had such an amazing time. 😭 he loved the pond so much I didn’t think I was going to be able to convince him to leave.
The chickens are on the property and you can walk right up to the gate of the coop. I thought they might be behind a fence or something, so Hudson was definitely distracted by them for a bit. (Sorry chickens)
I will definitely be back!Mackenzie K.

55The dogs loved the space, especially the pond and mud! It was mostly clean, a few spots where previous visitors hadn’t cleaned up after their dog. It was very secure and a great first experience with sniff spot!Mary M.

55Beautiful location with many options to sniff and explore. Expansive fetch spots, including shaded areas for fetch. The pond is beautiful too. The area is well organized and maintained. Highly recommended. Terry C.

55Great place to run around! So great, my dog didn’t want to leave. Lots of open areas to get the zoomies out and play ball, and lots of forested areas to track interesting smells. The pond is stinky and muddy (just how my pup likes it), so if you have a dog interested in water be sure to bring towels! Not a spot for you if you have a dog reactive to chickens - my pup was interested but left them alone easily enough. The spot itself was fully enclosed and I had zero concerns about her escaping, but there are a few spots with short plastic landscape fencing within the spot that an eager dog could jump over if they wanted to and crush the flowers (it didn’t look like there was anything too tempting in those spots, though). Will definitely return, she is already tuckered out for the day and I had a blast watching her play with her friends!Cade D.

55Great spot!! Lots of space and sniffs! Pixel was really interested in the chickens when we entered, but we had lots of space away from them to enjoy, so he forgot about them until we were leaving. Thanks for the eggs!! We’ll be back!!Julie S.

55Stunning property 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 it’s also fairly easy to bypass the chickens/scarecrows & gardens but they had flower bouquets and sometimes eggs for sale - I’ll definitely be coming back Gracie F.

55Great spot to throw a frisbee. There were a handful of clearings to give you spots along the way to stop and throw. Definitely got dirty in the mud 😆Jace H.

55This place was worth the hour drive. Our dogs had so much fun. One, of course, jumped in the mud, but there was a hose there to clean him off. There is also a can to put your poop bags in and a water bowl. I was concerned about the chickens, but they were secured very well and my dogs did great with them. Curious, but they listened to me when I called them. I didn't take any pictures, but the property is beautiful. Easy place to get to as well. Tricia K.

55Wonderful large, fenced space with lots for dogs to explore safely. My dog was thoroughly exhausted from running, sniffing and training in this spot! A tip - bring a towel for drying off if your dog goes in the pond!Lauren L.

55This was a great spot. The fence was super secure looking. I was able to get to most of the areas my dogs wanted to go to in my power wheelchair since the ground was dry. We will definitely be back.Gwen E.

55Plenty of space for our two border collie girls to wear themselves out. They loved it! Not muddy despite it being wet, they didn’t need too heavy a wash down. Thank you for the poop bags and bucket area, that is super helpful. We’ll definitely be booking again. Bonnie H.

FAQ about our Olympia dog hiking trails
Are dog hiking trails safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than a city or county park. With a Sniffspot off-leash area all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars. Our hiking trails tend to be outside the city, which lends to more privacy, but it is also important to follow typical hiking safety precautions, such as potentially having trail maps.
How can I find dog hiking trails in Olympia?
There are 14 dog hiking trails in the Olympia area. The most popular dog hiking trail is Steamboat Island Meadows. You can browse all of our dog hiking trails here.
How do I know if a dog hiking trail works for my dog?
Sniffspot provides the tools to find the ideal spot. Start by applying basic filters, such as fencing 6 feet tall and distractions, to find a dog park with trails that works for your dog. You can also filter by size if you are looking for a certain acre park, an expansive off-leash dog park. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our fully fenced dog hiking trails. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog hiking trails where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. Since you are looking for trails, make sure to check photos to see if it the spot has flat trails or gnarly trails. You can also browse by specific amenities, if you are looking for a view or a beach, for instance, or other activities or fun features. You can check whether the spot has off or on street parking, the regular park hours, whether it has paved trails or a modern restroom.
What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog hiking trail?
In order to hike the trails, we require that all dogs have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not permit dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules.
