Memphis’s meadow is fully fenced with new 5ft field fence. The lowest point is a three foot man gate by the house. It’s beautifully sloping park like setting with large mature trees. There is always shade to be found no matter the time of day. We offer extra amenities and are always open to suggestions! There is a larger 8ft wide stock gate (also secured with woven 5 foot fence) near the parking area. This is marked with a beautiful wood sign and sharing library. Please help yourself. We have two green chairs please feel free to move them around the yard as you wish and a picnic table to enjoy morning coffee, lunch break with your pooch or even a nice evening picnic to watch the sunset. We have added a gazebo for enjoyment on sunny days and rainy day’s alike! Feel free to send us a note if you have a special request or ideas on how to make your visit more enjoyable! As a note, we do have chickens across the driveway from where you access the spot. They are secure in their own space. If you are interested in farm fresh eggs let me know and I can set a dozen out for a small donation. Egg cartons are always welcome!

The pastures are cross-fenced, allowing for room to explore but not too far. An indoor riding arena is available as an add-on. It is enclosed on three sides, keeping the wind and weather out during playtime. It is well-lit for evening use. Horses offer additional entertainment but are always a safe distance with a large space (enough to drive a large truck through) between fence lines. The animals are not reactive to the dogs even when barking at them. The farm animals don't respond to the dogs, so often the dogs move on to exploring the space. We have some simple agility items in the space along with balls and other toys to help entertain both you and your dogs. As a guest, you have access to: * Fully Fenced Acre of play space for off-leash adventures * Water - Lift the green handle to start the flow of water * Poop baggies * White garbage can * Dog towels, clean ones in the clear container, and dirty ones go into the grey tote. We ask you to use 1 towel per visit if possible. * Porta Potty * Shelter with chairs and a small table you can put anywhere in the field during your visit we just ask that you put them back when you are done. * During the summer days we include a doggie pool. They are blue kiddie pools. Double them up when you use them so they are easier to empty and less likely to break. Please dump the pool and return it to the corner when you are finished. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: This is a field that has uneven ground including mole and gopher holes. Please watch your step. Please keep within the Sniffspot area. If you happen to throw a ball over a fence just message me and I can retrieve it for you. It is important to stay outside of areas marked private property. Those gates also have extra locks, but we want to be sure everyone stays safe. USE OF INDOOR ARENA: During harsh weather (over 95 degrees or winter would be those days of wind and heavy rain) the indoor arena may be an option. As winter approaches and post- icepocolyps logging winds down, I would like to test a pricing option. For the winter months, at least, I am going to offer sliding scale discounts. The guest can choose their pay rate for sanctuary use based on their moment-to-moment economic status. Discounts are as follows: $2 off (JMSS2); $4 off (JMSS4); $6 off (JMSS6). Enter the discount code (in parentheses) for your desired discount. Just as a reminder, or for new inquiries, the effort and cost to recover/rebuild Jasper Memorial Sanctuary was extensive and expensive. Material costs were over $5000. Labor costs, had I hired all the hours worked, are over $15,000. The price increase for utilizing the Sanctuary is small in comparison to the expenses incurred from the loss (0.1%). Thank you to all my amazing guests who have given your dog(s) opportunity to find their calm within by visiting Jasper Memorial Sanctuary. It is amazing to see your dogs and you finding your inner peace. Thank you too for following all of the rules to keep this SS sustainable into the future. The fee set is the amount needed to allow me to keep this site open and provide improvements when needed. (I understand other sites charge less, but I've learned charging less is not financially sustainable. Hosts do not earn what they charge). I love hosting new and returning guests. RECENT IMPROVEMENTS/RESTORATION: Approximately 80 damaged/downed trees removed. 40 uprooted stumps ground out 340' of new 5' fencing installed 140' fencing repaired New entrance gate/location created 100s perhaps 1000s of poison oak dug out (it's still present, just fewer) Culvert installed at entrance with gravel path to gate (pending) New signs installed A 6'x6' sand box has been added. Please encourage digging in this location only. Discourage digging in all other locations for the safety of everyone and the preservation of the environment. A poop bag dispenser has been installed on a post near the gate and will be kept filled. Jasper Memorial Sanctuary, named in memory of my soul dog Jasper, is no larger than 1.3 acres in and fully fenced. The acreage is a combination of mid-age dense timber, new reforestation, devastation zone and open grass. The area is flanked on two sides by driveway. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. Be respectful of wildlife. Deer and turkey roam the property and consider the space their home. If there are wild animals in the sanctuary enclosure upon your arrival, please keep your dog(s) on leash until the other animals have vacated the area. Under no circumstance are dogs allowed to chase wildlife. Domestic and rescued animals that live on the property include horses, donkeys, geese and chickens. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 and do not approach any of these animals. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 is about 50' away from the entrance gate. Please keep dog(s) on leash until within the fenced enclosure. 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 - If you have reason to have more than two vehicles for your visit, please contact me prior to reserving for pre-approval. If approved, there will be an "Extra" fee to add to your reservation. Please select the appropriate "Extra" for the number of vehicles approved. If you loved your visit, please share your experience with family and friends! **Interesting ecological fact if you see rainbow coloring on top of some of the standing water… it is NOT from chemicals or an oil slick. Here’s the explanation. 🙂 A common naturally occurring oily sheen originates from the seed cones of cypress trees. The cones usually fall into the water below the cypress, and an obvious rainbow sheen forms on the surface around the seed pod. In puddles of woodlands or around the edges of stagnant or very slowly moving water, it is common to find sheens covering the water in and about leaves and other vegetation. It is tempting to wonder what form of pollution resulted in the sheens, but the answer is microscopic - and natural. Tiny iron-loving bacteria of many types may be involved. A common tale is that some species of bacteria that live in areas with no oxygen (anaerobic conditions) get their energy by converting Ferric Iron (Fe III) to Ferrous Iron (Fe II) (chemists call this process reduction). As the Ferrous Iron moves through the ground water, it encounters water with oxygen, chemically fuses with the oxygen (chemists call this oxidation), then precipitates (separates from the water) and floats on the surface as a colorful sheen. There are species of bacteria that may help accelerate the oxidation process, and the most common is Theobacillis ferroxidans. At times, a significant area of the water’s surface may be covered and the sheen is as reflective as a mirror, having little rainbow-effect.

This was the PERFECT stop for my big gangly legged girl to stretch her legs and run on our drive from PDX to Newport. Thank you for having towels to use since she was pretty soggy with the rain. But I was super surprised that the area isn't THAT muddy ... probably thanks to the trees and the slant of the lower part. A bit slippery in spots, but human and doggo were A-OK and had a blast!

My dog and I really enjoyed this Sniffspot. The hosts were very nice and we had a wonderful time exploring the field and watching the horses. The field we were in had long grass although they mowed it just after we left to provide a short grass as well as long grass option in future.

Very kind and accomodating host. The field was nice and big with lots of interesting plants to sniff. My dog loved it even though we came on a hot day. Fencing was a little gappy in some places, so i kept my dog on a long line, but a less adventurous dog would probably be just fine off leash.

We used the field with shorter grass that’s fenced on 3 sides. The horses seemed to be very comfortable with dogs so it was a great opportunity for my dog to get used to them!

Host was nice and the area was great. One side wasnt fenced but it was no problem, we just kept our dogs away from that edge. It was a large area so plenty of space for them to sprint. Hoof holes were present but didnt seem to be an issue, dogs seem injury free. We will definitely be returning.

This field has easy access and was a great size. There were some points in the fence my pup could have squeezed through, but he does not tend to be an escape artist and was happy sticking close to us. We saw the horses but they were pretty far back from the fence, so it didn't attract our pup to them. There were some horse droppings in the pasture my dog tried to eat, but was able to be distracted by playtime with our chuckit. Overall we had a great experience and definitely will be back!

Great spot for our dog to run around! There was agility equipment available right at the entrance, but we didn’t even use it because our dog just wanted to run around the field and sniff everything! Lots of space, clean, and the location was easy to get to. There were two beautiful horses that were visible from the spot, but they were behind a fence and did not bother our dog (usually she’s scared of horses but they were far away enough that she didn’t care). A few people were visible too, but again they were far away and our dog wasn’t bothered by them. She just had a grand old time sniffing and running around! Would definitely recommend this spot!

They are so nice!! They last minute let us visit, and when my car got stuck in mud (totally avoidable, my fault entirely) they helped me get it out. My dog had a blast running around and checking out all the new smells.

What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?

We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?

No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
