55Great drive out and scenery. Saw kingfisher and egret and other birds. The path along the river is the brushed out route that parallels the road with occasional view of the river. Alternately you can walk the muddy riverbank if the tide is low enough (I don’t know how high it gets and how much is submerged). It was slippery and it would be easy to fall. If your dog is curious and might run up to the road like mine did I recommend a leash. I wore water shoes but I think mud boots like xtratufs would have been better. If you do this plan on bringing something to get the mud off your pups and you. I was warned by host that there may be green algae in the area so I should be careful about my dog drinking the water. As I understand it dogs can go into respiratory distress and die if they are exposed.
After walking along the river we didn’t have much time for anything else. Walking through the field looked fun but hot in summer. No fence and there is a surprising amount of traffic for the end of the road so I would be nervous to have mine run off-leash.Marianne A.

55I’ve been using this SniffSpot for the better part of a year. It is dog paradise. A giant field + beach free of off leash dogs and their irresponsible owners is genuinely a dream come true. We will continue to use this spot for as long as Jessica allows. 11/10 stars!!!!! Olivia G.

55This is a gorgeous piece of flat land that is ideal for athletic dogs that love to run and chase birds. Visibility is very good so if you are comfortable with your dog(s) “working the field” there is no problem keeping track of them. Hosts are very nice. Couldn’t ask for a better experience than we had this morning. Robert H.

55This spot is 40 acres of pure bliss! The open fields allow easy monitoring of the dogs while they run amuck. Jessica is a fantastic host. She met us upon arrival to say hi and describe the layout of the property. After letting the dogs sprint back and forth in the field, we took them to the water. The private little beach is the perfect way to end your visit! Having a dog reactive dog makes a lot of things challenging, but this place was perfect for letting her explore without worry. We are already looking forward to planning our next visit! Truly cannot recommend this place enough. Sawyer W.

55We have two rescue dogs, one of them is very anxious. This was the perfect spot for them. They were so relaxed and happy running all around and into the river, all off leash and no worries about them running up a steep hill to the road. I can’t say enough good things about this place!Heidee S.

FAQ about our Kalama dog hiking trails
Are dog hiking trails safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than a city or county park. With a Sniffspot off-leash area all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars. Our hiking trails tend to be outside the city, which lends to more privacy, but it is also important to follow typical hiking safety precautions, such as potentially having trail maps.
How do I know if a dog hiking trail works for my dog?
Sniffspot provides the tools to find the ideal spot. Start by applying basic filters, such as fencing 6 feet tall and distractions, to find a dog park with trails that works for your dog. You can also filter by size if you are looking for a certain acre park, an expansive off-leash dog park. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our fully fenced dog hiking trails. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog hiking trails where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. Since you are looking for trails, make sure to check photos to see if it the spot has flat trails or gnarly trails. You can also browse by specific amenities, if you are looking for a view or a beach, for instance, or other activities or fun features. You can check whether the spot has off or on street parking, the regular park hours, whether it has paved trails or a modern restroom.
What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog hiking trail?
In order to hike the trails, we require that all dogs have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not permit dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules.
Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot hiking trail at the same time as me?
Sniffspot only allows one booking at a time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the spot during visits. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between bookings.
How much do Sniffspot hiking trails cost?
Dog hiking trails in the Kalama area range from $6.0 and $6.0. The least expensive dog hiking trail is Lab Livin. The most expensive dog hiking trail is Lab Livin. Each host sets their own price, so you can check the price on the specific Sniffspot dog park listing.
