55Great open field with good visibility and easy parking. Well-maintained and super chill spot. Fyi, there are goats in the field behind this one, and the barbed wire fence is not secure. If your dog is a chase-y moron like my pit bull, you might want to leash up near the back fence. Fortunately my dogs have excellent recall, so she didn't get sliced to ribbons trying to eat goat meat for dinner. Love this spot and will definitely be back!Lorenzo F.

55Love this field to run my dogs in! About 20 minutes in we heard a horse neigh near one edge. My little dog got curious, and I wasn’t going to risk letting him chase livestock. So we avoided the east side and just sort of stuck to the middle. Great way to let the dogs get their energy used up by playing fetch in the field and getting to run full blast! Thanks for opening this area up to the dogs!!!Rema G.

55We LOVE this field!! This is hands-down our favorite sniff spot. Having a huge piece of land available to let my GSP really run is such a treat! The property is flat, east to find, and overall just a wonderful spot!Elise D.

55Easy to find. Huge field. Not as muddy as other places despite the rain. There is no gate or fence at the entry point so we walked our dogs in on leash and then there was plenty to do far from the road. The pups loved it, and found a wooded water spot at the back of the property. Would be a great place to have social distance puppy play dates. Karen H.

55Really a wonderful location with plenty of space to run and so many amazing sniffs. I am so appreciative, my pups can easily spend over an hour with their noses to the ground there!
Very easy to find and access. Its essentially a very large field filled with grasses and other natives growing freely. Towards the back of the property there are some larger trees and a lower area that collects water seasonally between the berry bushes. My impression is that it's only a couple inches deep, but my labrador can easily squeeze back there and plops on in with glee.
I can't comment on appropriateness for Reactive dogs. It's truely a rural location but there are cars on the streets and we have occasionally seen/heard a neighbor moving about on their property so it would depend on your dog's triggers. I haven't seen any other dogs or livestock along the immediate fence lines. The property is mostly fenced, however in some parts the fencing is just 2 or 3 strands of wire.

55Easy to find, beautiful field. Austin was responsive and helpful when contacted.
Land is mostly tall grass in an open field. Wear long pants. There’s a few trees near the back of the property with a low spot where water collects. Dogs can definitely squeeze in there to reach the water. I don’t think it’s very deep or clean.
This property is on a corner lot and there are cars on the roads on two sides of the property. The fence will not keep most dogs “in”, as most of it is two or three wires running along the property line. So be mindful of this if your dog doesn’t stay close, doesn’t listen, or tends to chase cars or bikes. Jessica N.

55I love this place because of what it has to offer. It’s remote but not too far away, large open farmland. After the field is cut it’s great to bring a ball and throw it around and just wander. The perimeter has barb wire fence. If your dog really wanted to get through it could but it’s pretty secure. Ira L.

55The field is great! It’s nice for on and off leash walking. There are some open spots in the enclosure to be aware of, but other than that it’s a nice big area. Cameron Y.

55Wonderful large spot. Easy to find. Easy to park and stay a good distance away from the owner's house (we are a socially distanced household currently). Large field that was adequately maintained for a nice walk n run with the dogs. We'll be back!Melissa C.

55We had a wonderful time letting our young dog run in this field. He can really stretch his legs and go fast! Just FYI, he is a hunting dog and did happen to find the dead carcass of an animal. It is so nice to feel out in the country so close to the urban area. Thanks for a great experience! Jessica N.

55First time visiting a Sniff Spot, and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction. My pup has never been so happy or tired. She found the gate a little scary and she did bark once at the horses in the adjacent field, but she had the best time! We'll definitely be coming back with friends. Valerie V.

FAQ about our Deer Island dog parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 97% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Deer Island area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 124 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 30 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can also filter locations to avoid other domestic animals and people. We also recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions.
