55This was our first Sniffspot experience and we had a wonderful time! The fencing was very secure and the terrain is steep, so it was perfect for tiring out my husky.
55Sunny had a blast! He can’t be around other dogs or people off leash due to reactivity, and this was literally the perfect SniffSpot for him. I don’t think he wanted to leave! One thing to consider is the road leading up has a big hill, so be careful in the winter if there’s a lot of snow and ice. Other than that it’s an amazing spot with loads of toys, water, and plenty of space. It meant a lot to us for Sunny to be able to run so freely without worry, especially on his birthday! What a cool spot. Thank you so much for allowing us to use your space. I wish we lived closer but we will definitely be back at some point!
55I would give a million stars if I could. Ample space for dogs to run around - and my dogs absolutely loved the agility course. Make sure to bring lots of treats to get them to run up and through all the equipment! Make a trip of it if you’re coming from Denver. We stopped by Nederland before hand - it’s an easy 15 minute drive from there. Absolutely beautiful drive through the mountains up and down. Highly highly recommend - we will most definitely be coming back!!
55Rocky had a blast here! He loves the snow and the agility course so he was stoked
55This place is just so incredible!!!
55My two dogs and I always love coming here! They get lots of energy out running around the large space and agility equipment!
555 stars from both my dog (Brody) and I! Brody had such a fun time running around in the snow and in the woods without a leash. He had plenty of places to explore, things to sniff, and lots of room to run around at top speed. The agility equipment was also a massive plus. We will most certainly be back!
55Such a cool spot! Mostly snow covered but definitely walkable and my dog loved running around in it. On cold days dress you and your dogs warmly! Melissa was very informative and helpful with that and everything else. Definitely interested in coming back for all the other seasons too!
55Another wonderful visit to this SniffSpot! The hosts, as always, are the kindest and most thoughtful. Lots of snow on the ground for the dogs to romp through. No problems accessing the space or walking around the space despite the snow.
55Great location and amenities! As described.

The only dogs that are on or near my property are my own dogs, who are not reactive. During your visit, i'll make sure that my dogs are out of sight and quiet. If your dog(s) come up on the decks, my dogs will bark, but usually guest dogs are more interested in roaming around than coming up to the front door.

No other domestic animals are on site, except for my indoor cat. She sometimes sits in the kitchen window and is visible from the yard. Most dogs do not notice her, as the kitchen window is about 10 feet above ground. If this is a problem for your dog, you can easily steer clear of the house.

Location

Black Hawk, Colorado

Description

Take a lovely walk in the woods with your dog, let them sniff and enjoy nature. Three acres of forest, fully fenced for your enjoyment. This is not the average suburban development -- this is more like hiking in the National Forest. Lots of squirrels to chase, sniffs to enjoy and hills to run up and down. You won't have any issues with dogs or people on adjacent properties! This property is surrounded by National Forest and unfenced/unused private property. In addition, you have another acre for agility, complete with jumps, tunnels, dog walk, a-frame, teeter, etc. All high end equipment. The running surface is flat & covered with wood chips. The wood chips are all from local trees, so no worries about added chemicals, etc.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

This is like hiking in National Forest. The ground is uneven and hilly. Wildlife abounds. You are likely to see hummingbirds, ravens, and hawks. You might see coyotes, deer, elk, or moose on the way to my house. Mountain lions and bobcats also live in the nearby forests, but you are very unlikely to see them. The fence keeps the undesirables out of the area that you will be in. NOTE: Some of you have asked about snakes...and the answer is...NO! We do not have any snakes at this altitude! Thank goodness!

Extras

Agility Equipment$0

First class agility equipment, including Clip-N-Go teeter, dog walk & A-Frame. Two tunnels with sand bags, many jumps. Feel free to set up whatever equipment arrangement you would like. Pro tip: keep the jump bars below the height of your dog, at the shoulder, particularly for agility-beginners! Safety tip: rest the jump bars in the cups, so that they can easily fall off. Do NOT push the jump bars over the cups.

Dog Toys$0

We have a cooler that is overflowing with dog toys! Please play with them while you are here! Our cooler also acts as a lost & found. If you accidentally left a toy behind, on a previous visit, you'll probably find it in the bin. If so, feel free to take it home! Enjoy!

High Country Bird Watching$0

In addition to nuthatches, finches, chickadees, juncos, siskins, grosbeaks, crossbills and woodpeckers, you will sometimes see Western tanangers, hawks, and turkeys. And ONCE -- I saw a Golden Eagle!!!!! Hummingbirds, May through August: broadtailed, caliope, rufous & black chinned. TONS of hummers! If you download Merlin Bird ID, a free app from Cornell, you can turn on the SoundID and it will identify all of the species currently singing to you.

Introverts' Package$0

If your dog is a confirmed introvert -- or if you are -- just let me know and we will forgo any host greeting! I'll plan to be gone when you are here, or stay inside the house. My dogs will be quiet and invisible. You can park up by the woodpile, away from the house and come straight into the agility field, through the metal gate. I want everyone to feel welcome, in whatever way suits you best!

Tips for Reactive Dogs$0

This is a perfect place for reactive or sensitive dogs. Here are some safety tips: Arrive & leave on time. I often use the 30 minute buffer between guests for my dogs, so don't come in early or leave late without my permission. Check for other vehicles, to make sure no one else is here. My blue Tahoe or green Kia might be here. Stay off the decks around the house, as that will trigger my dogs to bark. These areas are fenced off, to make that easy for you. Have a great time!

Weather!$0

Yup, we have weather! Sometimes it snows, sometimes it rains, sometimes the wind blows. As we say up here, there is no bad weather, only insufficient clothing. Please be prepared with an extra layer of clothing and good shoes. If your visit was spoiled by a sudden storm, let me know and I can issue you a discount for your next visit!

Wi-fi$0

Starlink, so it’s pretty fast. Use the “agility” network with 1234567890 as the password. Connection is better when you are closer to the house.

I love dogs, which is how I ended up living in a place that dogs love! I have 4 acres of woodlands around my house, 2 acres are fenced, with an additional acre in an agility field. I have loved and trained dogs who are reactive and am well aware of the concerns and the ways to help.
