55We had an absolutely fantastic time here. We recently adopted a rescue and wanted to give her a nice treat and allow her to run around safely. She spent every one of those 60 minutes having the time of her live. We will certainly be back. It was safe and secure, plenty of room for running and fetch. Loooootssss of spots to smell.
55Lots of spots to smell and play! We had a great time
55Thor and Draco had so much fun!
55My dogs had a lot of fun running and playing. It was clean and easy to get into. We would definitely visit again.
35Great spot for a “normal” dog!Unfortunately for mine, he was too excited/curious and slipped through the chicken wire in the back. No bad feelings toward the space, just a warning for similar dogs!
55The host was amazing. The yard was large with lots of grass for the pups to run around and play! Highly recommend!
55So fun for my pup! He was smelling and running around the whole time and was so tired after just a half hour! Will definitely be back :)
55Lovely open space!
55My dog Lucky had a blast running around, and sniffing everything in sight. He wore himself out! Will be back again.
55Pups had great time there…

Description

Fall/Winter update: the yard is DARK after 5pm. Hose is off for winterization, so please bring water. Our 1/2 acre fully fenced dog-friendly yard is here to host your special furry friends. We live a short, straight-shot drive from Chicago and are butt-up against the beautiful Salt Creek (and all the wild life that also calls the creek "home" - bunnies, squirrels, groundhogs, birds, garden snakes (harmless, but present in May), etc.). The head of Salt Creek Trail is located just a block away on Thomas Street, so feel free to explore the creek/trail after your yard time. It leads all the way to Villa Park, where you can catch the Prairie Path / Great Western Trail. You'll pass by MORE Brewing Company as well as outdoor bar and food trucks Fuel and Creme (ice cream). Make a day of it! Please note that even though the yard IS fully fenced, it is comprised of a variety of sizes shapes ranging from 6 feet privacy, raw iron, to 4 foot chain-link, barn wood with chicken wire between the wood gaps. You know your dog's "flight risk" better than anyone, so please make smart decisions when booking our yard. Dispose of poop bags in the BLUE TOP bin (green is recycle). Finally, note that we can only host 2 dogs at a time due to wear and tear on the yard. Have fun!

Cleanliness

99% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

Dogs with an impressive vertical leap are likely able to clear the back fence—see photo for reference. One foster dog we had was fixated on chasing a rabbit and barreled through the wire to get it. You know your dog's prey drive and jumping capabilities better than anyone. Choose our yard based on that. Finally, when it has rained, the yard closest to the creek will be soggy/muddy. All part of the fun! Suffice to say, most dogs just zoomie, romp, and have a BLAST!

I have been in dog rescue my whole adult life. While we are taking a break from fostering or adopting due to having a nine month old baby, we look forward to hosting your dog baby!

Notice: We are closing the spot on May 23rd for maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience. Grass and rain: Please keep in mind that during moderate to heavy rains the area without mulch can get muddy. Beginning May of 2024, we will post pictures daily to our Instagram account showing the condition of the spot. As you can imagine, due to the wear and tear the spot gets, it’s difficult to keep the grass alive. However, we do our best to reseed during the spring. BarkPark sits right across the street from The Salvation Army Freedom Center. This spot is fully fenced (chain link and wood) with the side facing the sidewalk being 5ft and the rest of the fence being 6ft. There is a dual-gate entrance to the spot for a safe entry and exit. Street parking is available. There is plenty of seating at this spot with shade throughout the day. There's a rain barrel filled with water for dogs to hydrate and cool down. We have water bowls available. GIANT sandbox that's great for digging and playing; no digging elsewhere please. On hot days, we do our best to keep the sand wet. Trash can onsite. We have poop bags available in two different areas for easy access. Half of this spot is covered with grass and the other half with playground mulch. This spot is big enough to get a good fetch session in or to just let the zoomies out. We also recently added agility equipment. We hope you and your four-legged friend/s have an exceptional time during your visit and choose to come back. Lost toys and items: Due to the amount of visits we get we aren’t able to track which items belong to which guest. If you’ve lost a dog toy or other item, please reach out and we’ll do our best to retrieve it and hold it for you. If you don’t reach out, we’ll hold onto it for a week and then add it to the Lost and Found Toy Box. Water: The dog drinking water gets changed 1-2 times per week, depending on the temperature/usage. During the winter months we empty the water barrel. If your dog/s require water during the winter months, we ask that you please bring your own. Food: You’re welcomed to bring food but we ask that you please clean up as a courtesy to other guests. Future additions: We hope to add more amenities over time. Our plans are to add more sand to the sandbox in late April or early May of 2024. We’re also hoping to have on-site parking around mid summer of 2024. If you have any suggestions for amenities, we’d love to hear your feedback.
