Hounds in Pounds was founded in 2015 by a small-town girl expecting to save a few dogs. Since our inception, we have saved countless lives and have become a lifeline for shelters all over the southeast.
We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many dogs as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. We hope that someday all of them make it out, but we will never forget the ones who do not.
If we can help save a life, we will. If we save a litter of puppies, we save the moms; mama dogs are often bred for their puppies and left behind with a grim future ahead of them; if we save a male, we save a female. If we rescue a puppy, we save a senior; if we rescue a purebred, we save a mix. We do not discriminate- no life, no matter what, is unworthy of love and a second chance.
Each dog we pull to safety is a family member treated with the utmost love and respect.
Many dogs we rescue are cases no one else will take; our motto at HIP is to never say never. We take on cases that others have deemed hopeless and help rewrite their futures.
To be clear, we are working for them. These dogs are our heroes, and we look to them for hope, inspiration, and sometimes the strength to keep going.
We also consider our followers, donors, adopters, rescue partners, and the rescue community a direct extension of our team. Without these moving parts, Hounds in Pounds wouldn't be able to do what we do.
Mission and Vision
Hounds in Pounds is a non-profit 501c3 local, foster-based dog rescue in New Jersey devoted to saving dogs on death row and in underserved communities in Georgia and other southern states as one of the leading rescues in the south, facilitating responsible and inclusive adoption and behavioral intervention.
Adoption Policy
If you rent your home, we require a copy of your lease or a letter from your landlord stating you are allowed to have the animal you are interested in. This letter must be on your landlord's letterhead and with appropriate contact information to verify the pets-allowed policy. If you own a home, we will verify ownership via county tax records in your state.Newly rescued, fostered, or adopted dogs must start their new lives with stability and safety. Our shelter partners are euthanizing dogs at record rates, and we can only help if we set the dogs up for success from the beginning of their rescue. Training is not optional; it is a requirement and essential for the well-being of your dog.A training deposit of $150 is required for all adopters. This requirement could be waived based on your experience at the Adoption Team's discretion. If this happens to be the case with your adoption, you will be notified of the decision.Adopters must complete one of the following with a dog trainer or group class:1. Puppy Kindergarten2. Basic Obedience3. At least six one-on-one training classTraining must be completed within three months of the contract date. Proof of completion must be submitted to us to receive your refund. If evidence is not offered by the deadline, your refund is forfeited. Training is done on your own with a qualified trainer of your choice.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
