Mission and Vision
The Jackson County Animal Shelter, a collaborative endeavor between Jackson County and the City of Black River Falls, embodies a profound commitment to the welfare of animals within our community. Supported by a dedicated budget and by the Jackson County Humane Society, our shelter serves as a sanctuary for lost, unwanted, and stray companion animals. With unwavering dedication, we provide a safe haven for lost pets, offering them shelter and care until they can be joyously reunited with their families. Moreover, we extend a compassionate hand to those animals in need, diligently working to place them in loving and responsible homes where they can thrive.
Central to our mission is the promotion of responsible ownership and the protection of animal rights. We advocate for spaying and neutering to combat pet overpopulation. Through education and outreach efforts, we empower pet owners with the knowledge and resources necessary to make informed decisions, fostering a community where compassion and responsible guardianship prevail. The Jackson County Animal Shelter stands as a beacon of hope and compassion, dedicated to safeguarding the welfare of animals and building a brighter future for both pets and their human companions alike.
Adoption Policy
OUR PROCESS
1. Apply
We appreciate you wanting to bring a animal into your home. In order for us to find the right pet for you, we need you to submit an adoption application. Adoption necessitates the signing of a legal agreement. Therefore, the adopter must be a minimum of 18 years old to proceed with adopting a pet.
2. Review
We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity. Completing an application does not guarantee adoption of the animal. Multiple applications may be considered for each pet, and our aim is to select the most suitable home for each individual animal's needs. If JCAS denies an application, we are not implying that you would be a bad pet owner, only that your situation isn’t right for that animal’s needs.
3. Finding Your Pet
Once approved for adoption, your journey to find the perfect animal companion begins. Our dedicated staff will assess the pets in our program, ensuring they align with your criteria and lifestyle. We value open dialogue about any specific animals you're interested in. Our goal is to facilitate successful adoptions that create fulfilling companionships for you and your new furry family member.
4. Meet-And-Greet
Once you've identified a pet that seems well-suited to your home, circumstances, and lifestyle, we can arrange a meet-and-greet. Families with children under the age of 6 must spend time with the pet to observe their interaction. Additionally, if you're considering adopting a dog and already have another dog at home, we recommend bringing your existing pet along to ensure compatibility. If the meet-and-greet goes smoothly, we may proceed with the adoption process.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
• We will not discuss adoption details regarding any particular animal if you have not yet applied to adopt.
• We will make every effort to review applications and set up meet-and-greets in a timely manner. Please be patient with us…the animals need our time too.
• Not all animals have been spayed/neutered yet by JCAS. Adopters agree if the animal they are adopting is unaltered that they will have it altered within 3 months of signing and provide proof to the shelter upon completion. They will also provide the schedule date of the surgery and the Veterinarian Information that is doing it.
• It is our policy that all dogs and cats adopted be spayed or neutered by the date specified within the agreement. on the contract. No animal can be adopted into a home that can possible mate with whatever animal currently resides at that household.
• Adoption fees range from $30 to $60, based on the spay/neuter status on an animal.
• Veterinary history concerning previously/currently owned animals significantly influences our final decision. Regular vaccinations are crucial not only for your pet's health but also for the well-being of your family, with some vaccinations mandated by law. Additionally, we require prospective adopters to demonstrate responsible care for animals in their current home before considering them eligible to adopt a new one.
• Adoption necessitates the signing of a legal agreement. Therefore, the adopter must be a minimum of 18 years old to proceed with adopting a pet.
• The Jackson County Animal Shelter does require all dogs adopted be vaccinated against rabies and get age appropriate vaccines. Cats also need to receive age appropriate vaccines once adopted.
• JCAS require all animals leaving our building be on a leash or in a secure pet carrier.
