Mission and Vision
Misunderstood Mutts Rescue (MMR) is a registered 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization serving the greater Yakima Valley and Puget Sound region. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, free, and throwaway dogs in areas where abuse, neglect, and cruelty are prevalent.
MMR places dogs in temporary foster homes where they are vetted, spayed/neutered (when medically sound), socialized, vaccinated, and any medical/behavioral issues are addressed. We strive to place the right dog with the right family and our process requires not only an application, but a home check, references, a meet & greet, and a representative from MMR performing proper introduction techniques.
MMR was formed in October 2016 with the goal of rescuing dogs from our own backyards, but in 2020 we expanded our vision to provide low-cost spay and neuter services with the use of voucher systems and traveling clinics. Rescuing is only a bandaid for the problem of overpopulation - spay and neuter is the real solution.
Our ultimate goal is to be a catalyst for a world free of homeless, neglected, abused, and abandoned pets.
Adoption Policy
ADOPT A DOG
Filling out an application is the first step in the adoption process. We strive to find the perfect family for each of our dogs to ensure they end up in their forever home, and for that reason we also require an application, a home check, references, and a meet & greet.
You are not required to adopt the dog once your application is submitted, and submitting an application does not guarantee you will be able to adopt the dog you're applying for.
If you've previously submitted an adoption application, it's not necessary to submit a new one! Please contact us directly with your name, the name of the dog you're interested in adopting, and a quick reminder that you've already filled out an application.
Our adoption fee ranges from $200 to $495, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and a behavioral assessment.
A representative from MMR will be with you every step of the way to ensure the best transition possible for both the dogs and for you

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
