I began rescuing animals back in 2018 when I started frequenting Baja California more often, and to my shock I saw a ton of stray animals. There were way too many dogs and cats on the streets of Baja without food, shelter, or care.
My first rescue was that of three kittens I found in a parking lot. They had no food, no water, and they were covered in fleas. I could not leave them in those terrible conditions.
So I rescued them. I took them in, took care of their medical needs, and found them amazing, wonderful forever homes with their FURever family. The more times I visited Baja, the more animals in need I found. It ignited something in me to just start just saving any animal I could.
After several years of nonstop work, our rescue finally became a nonprofit 501©(3) organization.
In addition to rescuing animals, providing medical care, finding foster and forever homes, we were so fortunate to have donations from such giving community members that we began spay and neuter campaigns in Baja communities at no cost to the people. To help prevent more homeless animals from ending up on the streets, we have performed approximately 3,000 spay and neuter surgeries in Baja California so far. We have rescued hundreds and hundreds of dogs.
I am just one person, yet I will help as many animals as I can. With the collective efforts of our amazing community members in southern California, dedicated volunteers, and incredible foster pawrents, The DeTommaso Dogs rescue is able to reach even more animals in need. Our goal is to provide love, care, and a safe home for each and every one of them..
Mission and Vision
The DeTommaso Dogs Rescue aims to save as many animals in need as we can. We rescue animals from the streets of Baja California; we provide medical care, feed, shelter, and rehome the dogs we find.
We have a special interest in preventing the problem of overpopulation, and homelessness in the animal community which is why we provide free spay & neuter surgeries to communities in Baja, CA where the need is immense.
Adoption Policy
Adoption Process
1. Browse through our available dogs and see if there are any dogs that you are interested in.
2. Fill out an application on our website. This will allow us to review all necessary information and give us a picture of what life would like with you for our dog. After we review the application, we will give you a call and discuss potential time to have a meet and greet with our dog.
3. Home check (virtual ok). If you feel that you and our dog is a great match after the meet & greet, you can adopt the dog on the same day. If you are adopting a large dog from us, we would like for you to send us photos of your patio, fence, and living room to ensure that the home environment is safe and aligns with our pup’s needs. If you are adoption a small dog, you do not have to send us picture, just ensure that the dog gets exercise. We can do a virtual home check.
4. Fill out our adoption contract. Once you have decided to adopt one of our dogs, you can either fill out an adoption contract in person on paper, or we can create a DocuSign of our contract for you to e-sign. Also, if you are planning on adopting one of our dogs after the meet and greet, please bring a collar and leash or harness.
5. Pay the adoption fee. We take cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal. We prefer the use of Zeffy on our adoption fee page, a nonprofit platform for our transactions.
