WAG is a special haven on the Olympic Peninsula that provides a safe and loving home for rescued and surrendered dogs. WAG shelters dogs at both their lovely 2.5 acre “Halfway Home Ranch” (on the beautiful landscaped grounds of a former nursery) as well as in the homes of countless devoted volunteers. They accept large, small, old, young, healthy, and needy dogs, and often rescue entire litters of homeless puppies plus their moms. Each charge receives extraordinary care and love for as long as they need it. WAG carefully vets potential adopters and only places their charges in the best forever homes with people who have the necessary skills to welcome the dog(s) into their family and home.Julie Smith
Since 2001, WAG has placed dogs into new, loving homes. Our rescues come to us in many ways: owner surrenders due to unplanned life changes, over-populated shelters, and strays found wandering streets and fields. Prior to adoption, all of our rescues are spayed/neutered, receive all vaccines, are micro-chipped, and all other medical needs are addressed.
Mission and Vision
The purpose of the Welfare for Animals Guild is to protect animals from neglect, abuse, and exploitation, to advocate for their interest and welfare, and to inspire awareness and compassion for the animals whose world we share.
Adoption Policy
The first step in all our adoptions is to complete an adoption application (under WAG Forms). Once the application is reviewed and approved, a meet and greet time will be scheduled. If the dog and the adopter are a good match, we finalize the adoption.
We often get several applications for the same dog. Although many of the applicants could be a great home, we have to make the hard choice as to which "great home" would be the very best home for that particular dog.
Our adoption fees vary depending on the dog. All our adult dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines, and micro chipped. All have had a medical health check-up, and any individual requirements will be stated in writing. Our puppies have all had a wellness vet visit, first vaccines, de-wormed and micro chipped.
Veterinary care, feeding and grooming throughout the dog's life is a major expense of owning a dog. Please consider that when thinking about adopting a dog for life. Our thanks to the over 2000 families who have adopted one of our wonderful dogs and given them their very own Forever Home!

"The entire crew at WAG work tirelessly 24/7 to help the dogs that are fortunate enough to come there. They will take on ANY case, no matter how difficult. There have been numerous hoarding cases the sheriff’s department will ask WAG to get involved with. No matter if there’s no room, they will step up to the plate and get the dogs vetted and rehabilitated in order to be adoptable. If a dog is not able to be adopted, they will become WAG lifers, but are loved and well taken care of. Last year they were instrumental in getting the first spay/neuter clinic set up at 2 reservations. They organized and coordinated with the tribes to get as many dogs (and cats) neutered as possible. They even brought back a female that was very pregnant because the owner wasn’t able to provide the care she needed. There were also a couple of feral puppies found in the woods that were taken in to WAG. Lucky little ones are now finding love in their respective forever homes. Earlier this year they were challenged with needing to provide 2 separate puppies with surgery ($$$$) for broken legs and a broken pelvis. THEN they were asked to help with a horrible case of a young Great Dane that was found in the woods, starving (73 pounds vs 100+ pounds it should have been)
as well as been SHOT 3 TIMES IN THE HEAD!!! WAG said no problem bring him in, we’ll figure out how to pay for it, but he needs us. All of these cases are indicative of the dedication WAG has to the dogs in our area. We are a very remote and mostly rural area of Washington. It’s impossible to imagine what our beautiful peninsula would be like for these dogs if WAG wasn’t here. They rely solely on donations and always in need. They don’t get any $$ from the state or national humane societies, only the donations from those of us that are lucky to know about them. They deserve the recognition and any help your efforts could provide."

"I have volunteered at a number of dog rescues and WAG is by far and away the most compassionate and conscientious organization I have been involved with. The dogs are housed in a lovely quiet (mostly qiiet😜)country setting with many large fenced areas so they can play together and hang out in. There are actually several houses the dogs live in (according to their size) that are custom built. Big dogs stay in one large house and they have their own sleeping rooms that surround a main living area, The living room allows them to get the feeling of what it is like to live in a home complete with couches, chairs, TV and a kitchen. The pups are fed high quality food, with attention to each dog’s dietary needs plus supplements. They get regular vet checks, and any necessary medication. They are walked and played with regularly and receive training so they understand basic commands and how to walk nicely on a leash. Most importantly, they are loved and doted on every day by the highly trained staff and volunteers. I am proud to be a part of this unique and wonderful organization!"

"The most common thing to hear around WAG's Halfway Home Ranch is "it's for the dogs" and that is true, but WAG is so much more. WAG lifts the whole community with kindness reminding us that for every abused animal, there are many more good people willing to do what they can to help."

"WAG is just a small rescue in Sequim Washington but the heart they put into their rescues is amazing. Recently they rescued a Great Dane shot three times in the head, left to die, emaciated and dehydrated, barely alive. Despite being small with very limited resources, six weeks later he is thriving. This is just one example, of many. In addition their screening process for adoptees is spot on. They KNOW who their pups are going to and ensure they will have their best lives from then on♥️"

"WAG has done amazing things in my community they have helped save and place many dogs in our area. They saved a bunch of dogs from the same hoarder situation I rescued my furbaby Ocean from and helped me when I found all of the dogs in that situations dad running around loose. They are amazingly passionate people and it shows in the care they give."
