PARK RULES
• Unless otherwise specified, all City of Grove City ordinances pertaining to city parks apply (Chapter 903).
• Park hours: dawn to dusk
• Park visitors use the park at their own risk.
• No glass. Dispose of all trash and excrement in approved containers. RULES FOR THE OFF-LEASH AREAS
• Use the areas designated for your dog’s size:
♦ Large Dog Area: 35 pounds and larger
♦ Small Dog Area: 34 pounds and smaller
• Keep off-leash area gates closed.
• No pets other than dogs.
• No smoking.
• Do not bring in human food, dog treats or favorite toys.
Food can trigger competitiveness and aggression in dogs as can a toy your dog is very fond of. Balls or other generic toys are fine, but use your best judgment based on your dog’s personality.
ENTERING & EXITING OFF-LEASH AREAS
• Each area has a double-gate system to ensure secure entry/exit of dogs. Make sure the vestibule area is free from other dogs before entering.
• Enter: Go into the vestibule, closing the gate behind you. Remove leash from dog. Open gate into off-leash area, allowing dog to enter area. Secure gate behind you after going in.
• Exit: Enter the vestibule only after it is free of other dogs; secure gate behind you. Fasten the leash to your dog. Leave the vestibule with your leashed dog, securing the fence behind you.
HUMAN REQUIREMENTS
• Age 18: minimum age to handle a dog. Handlers are legally responsible for the actions of dogs under their control.
• Ages 13-17: must be accompanied by an adult.
• Ages 12 and younger: not allowed in off leash area. Children can be injured by running or playing dogs and may have difficulty anticipating canine behaviors or understanding how their actions affect dogs.
HANDLER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maximum two dogs per handler.
• Keep your dog in sight and under control at all times; carry a leash with you.
• C lean up you r dog’s excrement IMMEDIATELY; bags are provided.
• Understand you are liable for your dog’s actions.
• Be prepare d to leave if your dog acts aggressively or anxiously (e.g. growls, snarls, bites, snaps, raises hair on back, suddenly stiffens, puts ears sideways or back).
DOG REQUIREMENTS
• Licensed, healthy and current on vaccinations: If your dog is coughing, sneezing, has discharge or diarrhea, is lethargic or otherwise ill, or has parasites (e.g., fleas), avoid the park to prevent the spread of disease.
• Spayed or neutered: In the wild, the strongest male dogs attract females for breeding. This translates into higher aggression in intact dogs who may challenge and fight dogs even when none of the other gender are present.
• A minimum of 4 months old: Younger dogs lack mature immune systems and have not yet received all needed vaccinations.
• On a leash when not in the off-leash area
• Acting without aggression: Watch for signs in your dogs and others such as: has rigid body, stares, growls/barks deeply, bares teeth, lunges or snaps/nips. Trust your instincts: if you are uncomfortable, remove yourself and your dog from the situation.
• Free of the following collar types: chain, choke, prong and electronic: These collars can cause injury to the dogs wearing them or to other dogs during normal play.
