A place to run

This was a horse pasture, but horse no more. There are a few elevation changes and plenty of river rocks that you are welcome to! Grass is mowed. Ignore the electric fence (it is off). 2/3rd of an acre with one shade tree, and a couple of chairs. Bring your own: doggie toys and water just in case (we do have a bowl for your dog). At about 2pm two guys with 3 dogs wander by on their daily walk, keep an eye out for leashlessness.

We have covered parking for you, 800 square feet of covered, protected, and padded play area in our pole barn, and 1200 square feet (0.3 acres) of fully fenced and shaded outdoor play connected to the barn. The SniffSpot is very private and removed from the house. All areas have lights so you can safely play late afternoons during the winter. Our secluded property is at the end of the road, yet close to town and just off the freeway. We provide toys for you to use while here, for large and small dogs, and for dogs with disabilities. Be sure to check out our Extras (all free). The SniffSpot gate is from the original Seattle Humane Society facility.

Be aware of the Alpaca in the separate fenced pasture above the Sniffspot pasture. There is also a hose at the bottom of the stairs on the north side of the building to rinse off your pup's paws if needed. Poop happens typically w/in first 10 mins; bags can be disposed in trash. Hose water available by front door, back patio, and secure chicken coop area. All areas are fair game once you are inside the gate. Once a stop on the Gig Harbor Garden Tour, this property boasts a variety of terrain to keep your pup(s) busy for hours. We are at the end of a private lane, and the back of the property abuts to 50 acres of DNR. Sightings of cattle, wild peacocks, deer, raccoons and grouse are common. Make yourself (and family) at home around the fire pit, small orchard, tree house, trampoline, flagstone paths and trails. Good shoes highly recommended.

Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow)

A .63 acre dog sanctuary for you and your pup. The yard is well maintained with dog friendly grass and has incredible views of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound. If you're interested, there is private beach access for you and your pup to explore miles of beach (public but almost always empty). There are numerous dog toys available and a massive 6+ person, dog friendly couch (late Spring to early Fall) you can relax on and watch the canal when you need a break! Regarding the beach, there are approximately 50 steps which you will need to climb up and down to access the beach so please wear proper footwear. As this is on the Hood Canal and not a lake or a pond, tides impact the size of the beach. If you are hoping to walk endless miles of beach, the tide will need to be at 2ft or below. Anything under 4ft will give you a massive area (probably 1/2 mile or more) and almost guaranteed private area as only people with stairs can access the beach at this tide level. Though the beach is open at any point, I think the maximum height you would probably want to go is about 6.5ft. This still gives you and your dog a decent sized area to play in (approximately 500ft by 30ft or 1/2 acre). Photos 16 and 17 show the beach at 6.25ft with a very large sandy area for you and your pup to play in. Anything above 6.5 ft is not recommended as the beach just gets thinner and thinner, but you're able to try if you want. (no refunds given if you don't like what you find). With that said, a 8 ft tide still gives you approximately 20 feet x 300 feet of beach to roam so you pup still has some room to explore and 9ft is approximately 10 feet x 30 feet. You are responsible for checking out the tides before you go. Legally, I can't recommend any specific source for you to use, but you might find good information Googling "tide chart port ludlow". Regarding ADA Accessibility, my property is on a gently sloping hill. To access it, there are 2 very wide concrete steps to get to the grass. This would be doable for someone on crutches and probably ok for a regular wheelchair if you had a second person to help lower you to each step and pull you up. It's definitely not accessible to a motorized wheelchair. Sorry. Note - restroom is only available if I'm home, otherwise there is one approximately 2 miles northwest at the gas station in Port Ludlow

We have a barn for indoor training, lots of toys, chuck-it station...as well as 2 grassy acres of running space for your pups! We've begun clearing trails through the small wooded area in the back of the property, feel free to let your pups roam through the trails. It is completely fenced. At the front gates, there is a small 6 inch gap between the bottom of the gate and the driveway. If you have a small dog that has a poor recall, please be cautious or keep them on a leash. We have reactive dogs ourselves so we understand those that need a PRIVATE space to exercise their dogs. Our 3 dogs will be inside during your playtime.
