Charles' Wild Forest: Private 50-Acre Haven
Welcome to our 50 Acres of Private Conservation Forest Enjoy peaceful off-leash walks through a rare old-growth Connecticut forest. Marked trails wind through woods, streams, and vernal pools, offering a peaceful escape. Benches and tables are available for resting and picnicking at the trailhead. This property is ideal for owners seeking a quiet, uncrowded environment away from other dogs. SAFETY NOTICE The property is large but unfenced. Dogs with any history of biting people or posing risk of aggression towards humans must remain leashed at all times while on the property. CONSERVATION EFFORTS Our USDA-approved Forest Management Plan aims to ensure sustainable stewardship of the forest’s health and natural habitats. Trail walkers are vital for achieving sustainability. As a walker, you can help us do so by: Donating. You can help us achieve our aim of sustainable conservation by making a donation. About 20% of your booking fee goes to Sniffspot allowing you to book a hike through their platform. You can choose to donate the remainder of the booking fee to support our trail upkeep initiative; or you can decline to make a donation and we will waive the remainder. You can book and come to walk your dog whether you donate or not. Documenting Biodiversity. Another way you can help is by sharing any pictures you take of the wildlife and interesting plants you come across on your walk. Sniffspotters’ photographic contributions have already been invaluable in helping us map the natural diversity of our forest. Feedback, Flagging & Fighting. Feedback on how to improve the trails, trail markings, etc. is valuable and we are always grateful to receive it. It is also helpful if you write to us to flag any obstructions, problems or hazards that you noticed when walking. Finally, some of you have joined us in our fight against invasive plants. If you want to join us, drop us a line and we will provide you with a most-wanted list, some gloves, a hori hori and loppers! Thank you for helping us to share and protect our forest.
