Back in 1998, a group of animal-loving friends took the first steps to forever change the future for shelter animals. We began with a handful of volunteers, a garage office space, and a modest adoption corner at a local pet store.
We were creating a safe place for homeless animals to rest and recover from the ground up.
We did it with passion, believing that every pet deserves the chance to know love and companionship. We emphasized positive change and what we could accomplish together.
Even in those early days, each act of lifesaving counted, no matter how small or unseen. We weren't just building a rescue organization, we were laying the groundwork for how our community looks at and looks out for its homeless dogs and cats. We were shaping the way we care for our most beloved companions. We shared whatever we had, and the more we shared, the more we were given.
We are led by a dedicated team of Board of Directors, staff, and incredibly supportive volunteers.
We partner with local animal shelters to rescue the most vulnerable and at-risk animals. Particularly, animals in need of urgent medical care, underage puppies and kittens, and animals who require more time to adjust.
Working together, we continue to build a foundation of compassion and inclusion to help both pets and people.

"We have adopted 2 cats and one dog from AFRP. They have amazing foster care, the animals are healthy and well cared for and do an excellent job of screening for good matches in adoptions. We plan to adopt other animals from them. Michelle Starr is a foster mom and even goes onto television to help animals become adopted. She fostered some of our pup‘s siblings and provides overnight care for our dog when we travel. She is on AFRP‘s board and is a great representative. Pet express in Carmel also does a great job of housing cats in a public place for short periods of time to help them become adopted. We got both our cats this way. The volunteers are amazing and devoted volunteers. Our foster moms did a great job caring for our dog‘s litter before they were adopted."

"I saw a Maltese that I was interested in meeting and adoption, but he was not the right dog for me. Instead Teddi was recommended as a perfect match and so we went to meet him. What sweet little dog. The foster Mom was able to answer all our questions and assure us that he would be comfortable around children, which I’d what we wanted. He is a perfect fit for our family and we are so grateful to AFRP for our perfect match."

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
