CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2017.
We are dedicated to rescuing dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and those living in chains. Our commitment extends beyond rescue; we provide comprehensive medical care, foster homes, and transportation by land and air through our valued partnership with PilotsNPaws. Serving qualified adopters across the East Coast, we ensure that our rescues find loving forever homes.
What sets us apart is our emphasis on building lasting relationships between rescued dogs and their new families. By thoroughly understanding both the adopter's lifestyle and expectations and the unique personalities of our rescues, we facilitate compatible matches for lifelong bonds. Our dedication to the well-being of our dogs is unwavering; should the adopter's circumstances change, we stand ready to welcome the dog back into our rescue at any time.
CrisisDogsNC: Committed to the life of every dog, every step of the way.
A warm thank you to Judith Texier, who founded the organization and served as director from 2017-2024
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to rescue dogs of all breeds and ages from high-risk environments in the Carolinas, including kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, abusive households, and owners facing life crises that impact the welfare of their dogs. We provide complete medical treatment, foster homes, and transport by land and air to fully screened adopters. We earned an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, a top-rated nonprofit status on GreatNonprofits, and we received GuideStar's platinum star for transparency.
Adoption Policy
Our principal interest is the safety and long-term well-being of our adopted dogs. We look for caring environments that provide the dog with the physical and emotional sustenance for a happy and long life.*Excellent vet reference: applicants' current or prior dogs must be up-to-date on shots, neutered, and receive monthly heartworm prevention. Medical conditions requiring treatment must also have been addressed.*Applicants' absence of health issue (s) that will interfere with the care of the dog.*Virtual home visit: Meeting our applicants in their homes is largely done virtually. We (and the dogs) prefer non-smokers.*Security: Fenced yards are preferred but not always required. Electric fences are not preferred but are evaluated on a dog-by-dog basis. Our ProvisionsWe rely on veterinarians, behaviorists, and our foster homes to assess our dogs. Not all conditions can be previewed, however. We are, therefore, not responsible for the treatment of medical conditions not diagnosed prior to adoption or behavior not observed/documented at the foster home.CrisisDogsNC provides:*Full pre-adoption vetting, including wellness exam; spay/neuter (exceptions due to medical advisement); deworming; microchip; heartworm test.*Treatment of conditions diagnosed pre-adoption including heartworm and, in most cases, dental surgery.*Printed Introduction Guidelines for bringing your new dog into your home. Specific recommendations by our trainer, Tracey Oliveto, of Butch and Sundance K9 Training (https://www.butchandsundancek9.com)Note: Surrendering a CrisisdogsNC dog you adopted to a shelter, is specifically prohibited by contract. CrisisDogsNC will pursue legal action against such a violation. Transferring to a third party is also prohibited without the prior approval of CrisisDogsNC.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
