Pit BullPit BullOne of my best friends fosters for Charley's K9 Rescue and it has been amazing to watch how much it has helped her feel fulfilled and supported as a human while also getting to save canine lives! Charley's focuses on the toughest cases and the hardest-to-adopt bully breeds. The rescue leader, Nicole, is an experienced dog trainer who even offers up her time to help train her volunteers/fosters as dog trainers and handlers, which is why so many Charley's dogs move to their furever homes with stellar manners and behavior, even after coming from some of the toughest situations of neglect and abuse. Earlier this year I had the privilege of helping out with transportation, and this rescue is truly full of the kindest and most flexible volunteers who will go far out of their way to team up and get dogs where they need to be. Rescue is an incredible community and there are many great people and places working on getting dogs adopted, but Charley's does it with the most commitment and heart that I've ever seen!Aubrey Leary

My husband and I have adopted two cats and one dog from Colonial Capital. The dog is a blind-from-birth foxhound that we adopted when he was 5 months old. Someone found him dumped in the woods and took him to CCHS. Colonial Capital knew something was wrong with his eyes, and they drove almost 100 miles to take him to a veterinary ophthalmologist to see what could be done for him. His eyes were non-functioning, but he’s healthy otherwise, so they got to work to get him adopted. There was something about this dog that spoke to us, and we adopted him on the spot. CCHS worked with us to provide us with resources on how to care for a blind dog, and they were available to answer any questions we had. Our dog is now 4 years old and the most loving and independent pup you’d ever meet! CCHS didn’t give up on him, and they won’t give up on any animal that comes their way. Our cats are not special needs pets, but CCHS made sure they went to a good home as well. They do wonderful work!Kim Huebner

We adopted Harper, an English Bulldog/ex-breeder, from Bullies 2 the Rescue. Harper had been kept in a small box for years making money for some bad humans. B2R fixed her up, got her medical care, and spayed her while she lived with a foster family. She came to use last September and the rescue had done an amazing job socializing her and made sure she was healthy. Without them, she would've been dumped, or worse. Thank you to B2R for saving these babies and getting them adoptable, we are forever grateful for our sweet Harper!Danielle King

I have also been able to provide support for needed fundraisers as the team is very active in the community helping to bring awareness to dogs that needs homes, love, and medical support. I've also been able along with my daughter to be lucky enough to volunteer at a few of these. Mollie, Julie, and team are highly organized getting events set up, communicating needs, and most of all - showing so much care and love for these animals. I'm in so much awe of the amount of work that goes into rescue. So thankful we have FRR in our area!!!!Mendy O.

Dogs are transported from Mexico with a team of volunteers to get the dogs all the way to NC. Pulled off the streets where they would certainly not have a good outlook. Local dogs at risk are pulled from the horrible shelter conditions. We currently have one Shepherd puppy that was hit by a car. Two broken legs. Left front and back. The Humane Society of Union County operates the only spay/neuter clinic in Union County, NC that serves mostly lower-income pet owners through affordable surgeries, wellness checks and flea, tick and heartworm preventables.
They also operate a monthly food pantry where they distribute pet food to in-need owners, helping to keep these animals out of shelters. For animals in the county shelter, HSUC often pulls dogs and cats and places them in foster homes, then adopts them into forever homes. The programs and services of HSUC have measurable results on their community and beyond.Ben Hau

PIPs is a foster based rescue, this means that there is no brick and mortar location- all dogs are kept in someone's home. A neighbor adopted a dog & they were amazing!TPTerry

Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption
Saving Grace began in 2004 at a private residence and farm to bring adoptable dogs and loving homes together. North Carolina is one of the highest states for euthanasia in the country and our mission is to make an impact. Since beginning, we've placed over 30,000 animals, however the task is still daunting.
Saving Grace partners with shelters with extremely limited resources where euthanasia rates are high across North Carolina to find adoptable dogs that just need a second chance. We also take a lot of dogs in need of critical care or in dire situations from them as well.
Animals are chosen based on their adoptability as successful family members and Saving Grace strives to provide a more natural and non-traditional shelter environment for dogs to interact with others and exhibit their natural behaviors while awaiting their forever homes. Our Funny Farm setting allows adopters to mingle and interact with a variety of dogs and choose a new companion based on temperament and suitability for their home and family.
Saving Grace is operated in majority by a hardworking and dedicated volunteer and foster base. This team is dedicated to finding an ever-changing but always special group of dogs an equally special family like yours.
From intake to adoption, dogs are cared for by a support system of committed fosters and volunteers. Volunteer roles include everything from transportation, daily care, medical care, and everything in between to get them ready for adoption.

Love Mutts Rescue
Love Mutts Rescue, Inc. (LMR) is a non-breed-specific dog rescue operating in central North Carolina and south central Virginia. We are a volunteer based, non-profit corporation run by a Board of Directors, and IRS designated 501(c)-3 charity.
We rescue dogs in need from the surrounding communities, provide them with appropriate medical care, and place them in foster homes where they can be loved and nourished while they await their forever home. It is our goal to help all dogs that come into our rescue find the families that are destined to be theirs.
Love Mutts Rescue was founded to provide a group of people an avenue to rescue animals from shelters. These shelters, and anyone who turns over a stray, can depend on LMR to provide these animals with proper vetting, nurturing fosters to care for them until they are adopted, and places to have adoption events so the rescue & the rescued can interact with potential adopters. We rely on volunteers to open their homes to foster, which is the only limiting factor to save more lives.
