So much to say. We adopted our Sheldon (who was born there when his Mom was rescued) 8 yrs ago. That's how I became familiar with what they do, and they do a lot. They are always taking in animals that were in horrible situations, ones that the owners have passed on, or can't take care of them anymore. Your pet is vaccinated and fixed before you can adopt. They took a newborn kitten in that I found on the highway, treated him for respiratory infection and found a home. These furbabies are well loved and taken care of until they find their furever homes. They also do adorable waiting for adoption pics with these babies. They are definitely #1 in my book.

One of A Kind Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization founded in November 2005 and is funded by private donations. The organization is dedicated to saving animal lives, rescuing pets in imminent danger of euthanasia, spaying/neutering and adoption of homeless animals into appropriate, loving homes. We are a no-time-limit shelter, and no adoptable animal is euthanized. Many of our animals come from Animal Control Facilities (the pound) just prior to their scheduled euthanasia. Sick or injured animals brought to us by Good Samaritans are often given priority. Owner surrenders and strays are accepted when space is available.

My wife and I were very fortunate to give two collies from Northeast Ohio Collie Rescue forever homes. After our first collie passed, we wanted to adopt a companion for our remaining collie. We live in Western Maryland, where there is no collie rescue. Because there was a good from our location to the nearest rescue, most rescues would not consider us. Northeast Ohio Collie Rescue was willing to work with us. They were very willing to work with us, despite the distance (about 250 miles), and waived the on site home visit, in exchange for photos. We were very impressed with the questions that were asked during a phone interview. It was obvious that they were thorough with the adoption process, and held a high standard for choosing forever homes. We were very impressed with the fact that they talked with our veterarian in terms of what they expect for care, but the kind of care our previous and current collies were recieving. The adoption process was very smooth and straightforward. Because of the distance, they volunteered to meet us at a halfway point. Two years later, our second collie passed, and we were looking for another companion for our adoptee (Cassie). As it turned out, Cassie's foster had another collie available for adoption. This time, we made the trip to Ohio and brought Cassie with us to visit with her foster, and to see how well Cassie and Brody would get along. Our distance prevents us from being active in the rescue, but we kept in contact on line, the gathering at Sunnybank, and annual Northeast Ohio Collie Rescue Picnic. It is always a pleasure to around the people in the organization.

Berea Animal Rescue Friends (ARF) is a no-time-limit animal shelter that rescues stray and homeless companion animals, provides medical care, spay/neuter, vaccinations and housing, and prepares animals for adoption into loving homes. We began as a grassroots organization in a family's garage and through hard work and the dedication of volunteers answering a real need in the community; the operation grew when the city of Berea provided us with a small building and utility costs; in return the shelter agreed to always have an open cage for the city's strays. The shelter was incorporated in 1987, and has now become one of the largest shelters in the region. In 2012 ARF purchased 16 acres of land in Columbia Township as the site to build a much-needed, larger shelter facility. We launched a Capital Campaign to raise funds for building, and in June of 2020 we moved into our beautiful new 5,300 square foot shelter . offering greater capacity to house animals and an enhanced environment for volunteers and adopters.

There was the dog that saved his family from a fire. There was the dog that fell through the ice in a lake and came to his foster home in a fire truck with the fire man’s hat upon his head. There was the dog missing a leg who became the support dog for the man with no legs. And there was the cat that taught the little shy child to finally speak. There have been so many. Founded in 2001 and celebrating its 20th anniversary, Paws and Prayers Rescue blossomed from the premise that all cast-off dogs and cats deserve the best lives possible as loved indoor pets. Paws and Prayers Rescue has rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed approximately 19,000 dogs and cats in those 20 years and hopes to do even more. All pets are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots and treated medically for a myriad of illnesses and injuries. Paws and Prayers has met its mission all these years and for the last several years has been able to use One of a Kind Clinic for their spays and neuters. Unfortunately, due to the loss of One of a Kind Clinic’s veterinarian staff, they are no longer able to do the low cost spays and neuters for which they have become a main stay of the community and so many rescues. One of a Kind picked up the Rescue’s dogs and cats at the Paws and Prayers facility in Cuyahoga Falls and drove them to their clinic for $50 per trip which was a wonderful way to transport and saved so much money. Now, Paws and Prayers will need to transport to other sites, some in other counties, with its group of volunteers manning or womaning the steering wheel. So the bottom line is, the rescue needs a van or large panel truck that can be used for spay/neuter days. The Rescue needs to find someone who can donate a van and/or needs donations that the rescue can use to purchase a van. Right now you are talking about 1,200 pets a year or 50 biweekly, cats and dogs. In fact, although the rescue is averaging about 1,200 pets a year currently, it has done as many as 2,000 in one year. The rescue takes animals from pounds, owner surrenders, and referrals. The rescue takes as many animals as it has volunteers to foster with overflow at its office. Jamie Ternes, Board Vice President and animal intake person, says “Most of our expenses go to medical costs. The general public are not the ones who will pull a cat with a broken leg or a dog that tests positive for heartworm. We take those pets because they will be euthanized otherwise, and they are sweet, loving animals and deserve a chance. “ Dee Lees, a Board Member, who concentrates on cat adoptions states, “A lot of our cats once were in a home, but someone moved and could not or did not want to take the cat with them. The cat was left or let out. They are so happy to have a new home where they are loved. And then there are the kittens, so many, so cute, and so dependent on socialization. But working with them helps the kittens and helps the volunteers even more when they realize the progress made.“ Also, there is Kaylee Jakubecz, only 23, who in her short number of years has already fostered and adopted almost 300 dogs and puppies into good homes. Kaylee loves to do pregnant moms, loves the birthing, and loves watching the babies open their eyes and grow into lovable pups. Kaylee has been a volunteer for Paws and Prayers since she was 14 years old and continues to cherish each of her new fosters. The Rescue owes its existence to its volunteers and most work is completed free of charge by those same volunteers. There are groups of volunteers: dog walkers, fosters, a group that calls themselves the Green Team as they show pets at a pet store in Green Ohio. There are cat people, transport people and dog people. There are so many events volunteers can attend: pet adoption sites, Portage Lakes Pirate Days July 24, Bow Wow Beach, September 19, and Yappy Hours at the Winery at Wolf Creek each second Tuesday of the month to name a few. To sign up to be a volunteer, check the website at www.pawsandprayers.org and if you would like to donate to the group’s transportation vehicle, you can send donations to Paws and Prayers Rescue, 1407 A Main Street, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44221 or check the website. Any help would be greatly appreciated. “Paws and Prayers Rescue tries to educate the community, save discarded dogs and cats, and make a difference,” said Cathy Ruther, a volunteer, “and I love helping them.”

At Paws and Prayers, a dedicated force of volunteers drive our goal of saving as many animal lives as we possibly can. Founded in 2001, Paws and Prayers blossomed from the notion that all cast-off animals deserve only the best lives as loved, indoor pets. With a higher power's guiding hand and unending prayers, the rescuers that formed Paws and Prayers sought to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home forgotten, neglected, or otherwise left-behind pets. One of the first of its kind, Paws and Prayers rescuers formed a foster-based rescue system in which every saved pet was cared for in the loving homes of the organization's volunteers until the perfect adoptive home is found. In its inaugural year, Paws and Prayers saved the lives of 200 dogs and cats. Paws and Prayers ever-growing base of volunteers and foster homes proudly saves hundreds of pets each

As the sole taxpayer-funded provider of these services, we are committed to ensuring that all animals in our community are valued, protected and have a safe place to call home. We meet the immediate needs of animals that come to us through highly individualized care, life-saving solutions and temporary housing either in the shelter itself, or in foster homes throughout the community as we work to find safe and compatible homes for all. Known also as Cincy CARE, we assumed responsibility for Hamilton County animal services in August 2020, becoming the state's first open-admission municipal shelter committed to the humane no-kill philosophy, which means only euthanizing an animal when there is no other option for a live outcome.

I have adopted 2 dogs through Freedom Ride Rescue. Cam, who is now 3, we adopted in 2021. He was about 4 months old and had been picked up as a stray. Freedom Ride Rescue placed him into their foster care. When I met him it was love at first site. He is probably a lab, pit, hound mix and we couldn't love him more. Caroline, who is probably 7-8 years old - we adopted her last April from Freedom Ride Rescue. She is a great pyr who was confiscated from a horrible backyard breeder hoarder situation. Because of that, she had to spend 6 months in one of the shelters here in NC as "evidence." Once freed, she was placed into foster care. When we first met Caroline, we loved her. We just had to make sure she melded in with our other 2 dogs (Cam and Coal, our black lab) and our cats. She is the best dog and we love her to the moon. It is wonderful knowing that her life is the very best it has ever been. I also volunteer with Freedom Ride Rescue. So I know firsthand, that this rescue is all about its' army of volunteers and fosters. What started out as a boutique rescue 4 years ago has grown into one that has now saved over 3000 dogs! It is such an honor to volunteer with Freedom Ride Rescue and live my passion of loving dogs and saving them

We are the most fortunate family who adopted the most wonderful collie from Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio . Reggie was rescued from a deplorable situation where he lived outside. Very little food ,water and most importantly human love. AHDRO with the most dedicated team of knowledgeable volunteers reached this poor sole and took all necessary measures to take him in and provide medical and foster care To help him to get thru his poor condition. When we saw his picture on the AHDRO website we knew he was our boy. Reggie immediately bonded with his new sister Bonnie (collie) and two cats. He is the most loving and calm boy . We attribute this to the care and love that his rescue team and foster family where there to give him. AHDRO is an amazing group of humans who do everything to ensure that first and foremost the dog is priority. Their adoption vetting policy from home visitation to scheduling a meet and greet with the adopting and foster family is amazing. These are volunteers ; who travel many miles to reach and rescue these neglected pups and they do this for the love and protection of Collies. May they continue their good work with your help.

They go above and beyond to make their customers and animals happy. So many animals that get adopted through CHA find such loving homes and that all starts with having an amazing shelter and staff.

I recently adopted my dog through Gigi's and was so pleased with the process. I was nervous about adopting another dog after saying goodbye to my first pup, but Gigi's listened to what I wanted in a dog and helped me meet a few. I came back for multiple visits and even a follow up shot appointment and all were taken care of! They send multiple follow up surveys to ensure you are happy with your pup. An overall great experience.

Buckeye Bassett Hound Rescue operates with compassion, kindness, and respect. I’ve adopted from them and they delivered to me a healthy Bassett hound/beagle mix with the promise that no matter what the situation, BBHR would be there to help or, if need be, take the dog back if no longer wanted. I found that to be very kind and comforting to know they care so much about their rescues to offer this. They are constantly having benefits manned by volunteers to earn money for expenses and picnics just to get the “rescue family” together! Lastly, Bonnie Patterson is very attentive and quick to find a foster for a Bassett Hound needing a home. She communicates with shelters and other centers regularly to get any aid to a Bassett hound she can. My adopted dog, Sampson, has been with me for almost 5 years and I still speak with Bonnie regularly as she inquires about Sampson’’s life. I highly recommend BBHR as a go to for a rescued Bassett Hound Rescue.

In July of 2023 I lost my 11 yrs old girl Swayze to liver failure. I WFH and my apartment just did not feel the same anymore. I went to Sisca website to check out dog's that were up for adoption. That is where I found and fell in love with my boy Blue a 7 yr old Pitbull Mix. He has made the grieving of Sway much easier, he has brought back the much needed noise in my apartment that I missed with my loss. The staff, volunteers and everyone else associated with Sicsa do amazing things for these animals. They reached out to me weekly to check on Blue to make sure we were getting acclimated with each other. I would send them pictures of how well he was adapting in his new home and they were totally fan girling over them. They take care and love these dogs as if they were there own. I think that every shelter/rescue deserves to win this contest but Sisca will always have special place in my heart for bringing me Blue.

They work to match the adopters with the temperament, age, and needs of the pet but Paws and Prayers goes beyond that! At a one-on-one meet and greet. I had a chance to get to know my pup and he to know me. That was it. After all of the forms and vet recommendations and emails, it came down to two individuals and how they felt together. Once we knew we were a match, we received support and continued communication as we got to know each other. Paws and Prayers is a truly exceptional rescue!
