She set the beginning mission and vision for Wish Bone, then worked to gather amazing volunteers to assist in accomplishing their goals. These included highlights such as twice yearly vaccination clinics for low income pet owners, and a bi-weekly pet food bank. Their advocacy also helped to spur positive changes at McLean County Animal Control, thus ending the killing of animals in Illinois last gas chamber. As a result of recent research, Lisa has found that there are still many local pets slipping through the cracks. She has put together a progressive plan that will ultimately help to resolve barriers to the welfare and health of local pets and their people, thus keeping them safe. She look forward to working with their Board Directors, Council of Advisors, and enthusiastic supporters to bring Pet Central Helps! to our community, in order change lives for the better.

Our History The Humane Society of Logan County is a shelter for homeless animals in Logan County, Illinois. In April 2006 the HSLC was chartered as a not-for-profit (501c3) organization and operated as a foster-based shelter. In May 2011, through a very generous gift of 2.5 acres of land and community support, we had our groundbreaking. In September 2011, our physical shelter opened and continues to make strides in animal welfare every day. That same community support not only opened our doors but also keeps us going. HSLC is supported by a board of directors, an amazing team of dedicated volunteers, and one part-time animal care coordinator. As a not-for-profit animal welfare organization, HSLC does not receive federal, state, or local tax dollars. In addition to nominal adoption fees, HSLC relies heavily on donations from individuals and corporations who also have a commitment to animal welfare, and fundraising activities. The HSLC is grateful for the community support and volunteers who dedicate countless hours each year. Through our adoptions, food pantry, veterinary assistance program, and partnership with APL for a low-cost spay/neuter program, we are fortunate to make a difference in the lives of animals and families in Logan County.

All of our dogs get the best of medical care. Each dog is treated for any medical problems.....then spayed or neutered, brought current on all shots, wormed, treated for fleas and ticks, heartworm tested and treated if positive for HW, started on preventative medication, started on flea prevention medicine, and groomed. All shelties are then carefully placed in approved, responsible, permanent homes. If you are looking to adopt a Sheltie, "Rescue" is a great place to look.
