Retrievers & Friends of Southern California, Inc., was formed to rescue and re-home Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers, providing an alternative to the animal shelter for owners who can no longer keep their dogs.
We are a full-service rescue, with dogs coming to us from all over the Southern California area for foster care services. RFSC not only provides care for dogs while they are waiting for adoption, but we provide follow-up assistance for the life of the dog. If for any reason a family can not keep a dog, the dog is brought back to the organization for placement.
We have volunteers that perform home visits before each adoption. Our geographic adoption area is Riverside, San Diego, Orange and certain areas of San Bernardino counties. We cover areas of San Bernardino county that are 1 1/2 hours or less driving distance from Temecula.
In addition to Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers, RFSC also accepts mixed breeds and other small purebred dogs as space allows. We accept Goldens and Labs of all ages, including seniors and those with special needs. All dogs are spayed and neutered and updated on vaccinations if not already done by the owner. Dogs with special medical needs are further evaluated by our veterinarian for treatment.
Your donations are always appreciated and help us to continue to care for these special dogs. Because we are an all-volunteer group, 100% of all adoption fees and donations are used for the care of the dogs in our program. Your tax-deductible donations are appreciated!

Adoption Policy
The first step in adopting a dog is to complete an adoption application. Be specific in your answers to give us the best possible picture of your home and family. A volunteer will review your application and get back to you within 1-2 days.
Due to the high volume of adoption applications, we use email to communicate initially during the screening process.
Please remember to check your email for our response, and if you do not receive a reply to your application within 48 hours, feel free to send us an email.
Sometimes we may have concerns regarding an application, and we reserve the right to deny an application if we feel there is a reason the home would not be appropriate for one of our dogs. If we will not be proceeding with your application, we will do our best to communicate this in a timely fashion.
We receive many applications online each day, and we usually have several persons interested in a particular dog. We closely review each application, looking at the family's lifestyle, how much time they spend at home, yard size, current pets in the household, their previous pet history and their knowledge of dogs.
We compare this to what we feel would be the best environment for the dog, considering his or her training and exercise needs, any medical needs, how the dog relates to children and other animals, etc.
After considering each application, we choose the one that seems to be the best match for the dog.
If your application is not chosen for the dog you are initially interested in, we suggest you visit our web site often (many prospective adoptive families visit daily!), and email us if there is a different dog you think would be a good fit for your family.
A home check is required for approval of an application and will be done prior to (or at the time of) adoption. The volunteer visiting your home will check your fence and gates for security, and will make sure that there aren't any safety hazards or other concerns within the home. In addition, we want to makes sure that any current pets in the home are also well cared for.
All dogs will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and vaccinations (DHLPP) will be given if not already current. Retrievers and Friends uses the Avid Microchip for permanent identification of dogs. The microchip will be implanted prior to adoption.
Some dogs have additional health needs, which will be addressed by our veterinarian as necessary. X-rays of hips are not recommended as routine veterinary care, and are not done unless there is a suspected injury or orthopedic condition such as hip dysplasia.
Dogs in our program come from private families or animal shelters. Families who are flexible in the sex or gender of a dog or who will consider a dog in the 5 - 7 year range will not wait as long to adopt as those who will only consider a 1 - 2 year old female.
Our policy is to not place our dogs in homes where there are children under 6 years of age.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
