S.A.F.E. Rescue Team is a foster based animal rescue founded in 2019 by an animal-lover – Markelle Pineda. She had been involved in rescue for years before finally deciding that the best way to help animals in need was to open a rescue of her own.
Our main focus is helping the voiceless, abandoned, neglected, and abused. We are dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs that have compelling situations where they are in danger of abuse, neglect or euthanasia. Our dogs are never placed into a shelter after being saved. We only place our animals into loving and experienced foster homes until they are ready for adoption.
We regularly take in owner surrenders, and at any given time about half of the dogs we foster are local dogs. The other half come to us through rescue volunteers. We search for the dogs that we feel need us the most, and we are doing as much as we possibly can to help as many dogs as we possibly can, but the sad reality is that we cannot save them all (though we intend to keep trying to!).
All of our animals are vaccinated, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, provided with full health examinations, dewormed, flea treated, and come with their rabies certificates, health papers, and vet records.
“Our ultimate goal is to create a world where all companion animals have loving and permanent homes. Where no good-natured dogs, no matter what their age, are killed in shelters because they are considered to be surplus or un-adoptable.” – Markelle Pineda, President & Founder
Mission and Vision
SAFE Rescue Team is a volunteer-powered nonprofit dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, and abandoned animals from certain euthanasia and finding them loving forever homes. We educate the community and all pet parents on responsible pet parenting, including the importance of spay/neuter, obedience training, and good nutrition.
Adoption Policy
To be considered you must:
• Have identification and a utility bill showing your present address
• If renting, have the knowledge and written consent of your landlord
• Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for the rest of the dog’s life.
Adoption Process
• Adoption Application
Fill out and submit this adoption application. Please keep in mind, we consider all applications in the order they are received.
• Meet and Greet
After your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule a meet for your dog of interest. Everyone living in the house must attend the initial meet and greet, agree upon adopting your dog of interest.
• Home Check
While a home visit is required prior to placement, it does not guarantee adoption. We like to see where our dogs will be living which gives us peace of mind they will be in a safe secure environment and be living as beloved family members. Often we can help with unforeseen health and safety risks that potential adopters may not be aware of.
• Adoption Contract
The adoption contract is a binding agreement between the adopter and the SAFE Rescue Team. A copy will be emailed prior to the home check to discuss any questions or concerns.
• Adoption Donations
In many cases, we have already spent hundreds of dollars on vet bills and care for each dog. The donation helps us recoup a small fraction of those costs. Adoption donations cover spay/neuter (with our vet), *vaccinations, microchip, a wellness check, any additional medical expenses necessarily incurred by rescue, and of course all the love and daily care we take with each dog before they are adopted.
• Training
Training is an IMPORTANT part of a dog’s well-being. Most of the dogs we rescue are from neglectful homes, or stressful shelters, or they have been living and surviving on the streets. We see the same heartbreaking scenarios that sadly end with wonderful dogs being euthanized because of something as simple as dog training (or lack of it).
We are passionate and committed to dog training and education and work hard to set each dog off on a successful start in their new home therefore training is part of our adoption requirements. An additional training fee is required and paid directly to one of our approved trainers. We work with some amazing trainers but if you have a trainer you prefer or have worked with in the past, we will take that into consideration to meet our requirements.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
