We are a group of individuals who found each other because we were all individually rescuing dogs, posting about dogs, or had prior experience in dog rescue. We all have a great love & passion for dogs! With so much in common, we joined forces to have strength in numbers!
Our Programs
• Subsidize Spay/neuter services for animals belonging to income-qualified pet owners
• Partner with transport services to relocate dogs to out-of-state dog rescues with low dog populations
• Intervene in animal hoarding and abuse cases, working with area law enforcement and other rural rescue operations
• Work collaboratively with other rescues, shelters, animal welfare organizations, and out-of-state adoption partners to make sure that unwanted animals find forever homes.
• Maintain a major presence on social media, providing public education about pet overpopulation, responsible pet ownership, and animal welfare.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to rescue abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and to facilitate needed services of food, spay/neuter, medical care, and temporary housing. We partner with local veterinarians and fosters to provide these needed services while we work to find permanent, caring homes for each dog. In addition, we create public awareness on the importance of spay/neuter, medical, and nutritional care for pets in our local community.
Adoption Policy
Requirements for Adopting
• We often require adopters to have securely fenced yards. However, some of our dogs may be considered for homes with smaller enclosures (i.e. secure patios) and we do occasionally adopt to apartment-style homes or homes without fenced yards.
• Our dogs will make amazing personal companions and should not be adopted for the sole purpose of being a service, working, or guard dog.
• Should it be necessary to find another home for the dog, we do require that adopters contact Waymaker Rescue. We may require the dog be returned to us and that should be a consideration for long-distance adopters.
• Other pets in the home must be spayed or neutered.
• Our adoption fees range from $50 – $450. Every pet 6 months old or older has been spayed or neutered and often has received other immediate medical care when needed. Your adoption fee helps to cover a portion of these costs.
• We do adopt dogs to out-of-state residents and each application is handled individually. After the application, interview, and approval, adopters must travel to our Rescue in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to finalize the adoption.
• Waymaker Rescue will not ship dogs under any circumstances.
• Waymaker Rescue reserves the right to refuse any adoption. Please keep in mind that every decision we make is in the best interest and safety of our dogs and the families we place them with.
• For dogs with special needs, we are looking for adopters with past or current experience caring for a dog, preferably, people who are familiar with nurturing a previously abused animal. Everyone in the family should be committed to your new dog. We understand that abandoned/abused dogs might not work out in every home, but we do ask that you give it a few weeks to see if the dog will adjust to your home and routines. These dogs are traumatized and harmed by multiple environment changes, so it can take some time for them to settle in and feel safe.
How to Adopt
Thank you so much for your interest in adopting one of our dogs! To help ensure that we place our dogs in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we have a structured application and interview process. Please either complete the Online Adoption Application below or download the application file below and email completed application to waymaker@waymakerrescue.org. After your application is received, you will receive a response from an Adoption Coordinator. This should occur within 48-72 hours.
The Adoption Release Contract will be completed when you are accepted and have been matched with your loving, rescue dog.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
