55Every time I took my dog to a bigger place it was so hard to engage with her, but this space was big enough for her to run around and small enough for her not to get overwhelmed! And the owner is so nice and responds very quickly. It’s very close to Midway so the planes flying over can be really loud, but that didn’t bother us at all. It’s pretty cool to see them flying over! Would definitely recommend!Lauren P.

55This was our second visit to urban retreat and my dog just had the best time, playing fetch, herding a big ball ,and sniffing all the wonderful(according to her) smells. The yard is very secure and nothing to bother you during your time, the host is very good about keeping her dog in the house if your dog ,like mine ,isn't friendly to others. We will be making another trip soon I am sure.Heidi K.

55What a beautiful backyard! So nice to have a spot that not only was enjoyable for my dog but for me as well. There was plenty of room for her to run, and lots of things for her to sniff. It was too hot for her so she mostly lazed, but luckily this yard had plenty of shady spots for that too. Nancy was incredibly kind and accommodating for my dog that has a few extra demands due to her reactivity. We'll be back when the weather's cooler!Carol B.

55I adopted my dog Lola from CACC about 4 months ago...evem though she tested great with dogs, people and cats, after coming home, she has severe anxiety and reactivity that we are working through....she was found as a stray and who knows what happened to her before, and also spent over 2 months in the shelter in Chicago, she was scheduled to be put down the next day only due to overcrowding, so I adopted her to save her.
Alot of her reactivity is due to being in the city and where I live, it is too busy and chaotic for her with her anxiety and fear....alot of her reactivity is fear based, so it has greatly limited our abilities for her to enjoy the outside and our yard is very small....to have found a place like this to take her, truly is a game changer.....I mention all the above so you understand how important and wonderful today was for her at this sniffspot!
She was so happy from the first moment we walked in. The space is lovely, full of plenty of places for her to run and sniff and play. They were so kind to set out some great toys and water bowl for lola which she enjoyed immensely. The yard is lovely, c shaped and has a very secure tall fence. They nade a point of staying inside and allowing us to just access the yard by ourselves. That meant that every moment was a joy for her, I booked 2 hrs and she spent them happily in there. The sniffspot neighbor even brought their dog outside, on the other side of the fence and Lola was so busy sniffing and playing, she never even noticed or cared that the neighbor and his dog were behind it! Yay!
I cannot wait to take her again it was so good for her and I! She ran for the first time off leash today since leaving the shelter 4 months ago! To be able to just sit and let her be free running and playing safely for her was magic. Thank you for opening your yard to us! We will most definitely be back, what a great first time using sniffspot for Lola and I! Thank you so much! ♡Abby S.

55This was our first visit to a Sniffspot ,my dog is fear reactive to just about everything and everyone . We live in a condo and do not have a yard and just walks were leaving her with energy and frustration.i brought her in with her muzzle on to be safe and removed it after we took a turn around the yard, the host was already aware that my gurl is reactive so they stayed in out of sight, she left out some toys and a bowl of water which was great.
I had brought along two balls and quickly lost one lol,no big deal my gurl had so much fun running fetching and sniffing without mom telling her no,come on let's go,
We will be going again soon even in snow because she loves playing in it.
I'm so thankful that this family has opened their hearts and their yard to give pleasure to dogs like mineHeidi K.

55This was the perfect spot for an afternoon of fun in the sun with the doggos. Nancy was the most gracious, helpful host and her backyard was perfect for play, training, and cooling off. It was a wonderful oasis for pups and humans in the middle Chicago. We will definitely be back again soon!Lauren H.

55Nancy’s urban retreat is truly what the name describes! It is an oasis for pups and their owners. Nancy filled the pool up for us and had lots of toys out for my dog to play with. His favorite spot was the shaded area next to the pool. If you’re looking for a quiet private escape near the city, this is your spot! We will definitely be back. Carly C.

55Amazing!! My dog is human & dog reactive. This was the perfect peaceful spot for him. Fence is high. He was able to get some barks out at some regular everyday sounds and it was nice for him to be able to run around and explore. This is my dream backyard stocked with so many great things for my dog to enjoy and relax with. To my surprise, he was a huge fan of the sandbox! It's a little drive from us, but so worth it! We will definitely be regulars here. Marieclaire A.

55All of us had another awesome visit!! Our two big boys loved the toys, endless supply of water (water bowls were provided as well as a hose) and being able to run and play freely! We appreciate this setup so much- one of our boys is reactive to other dogs and the tall fences are not see through so even if there was another dog on the other side, there is no chance of visual stimulation. It is the ideal place to let your pups roam in a safe, truly worry-free environment! They even had a baby/puppy pool set out and agility training apparatuses if that is your jam. Bonus- the yard is SUPER cute and cared for. In addition, they have chairs all throughout the yard (and specifically in the back portion where your pup will probably spend most of his or her time) and they even put out little bottled waters for their human guests! Just so lovely!! I’ve communicated with Nancy a few times and she is just as lovely!! Thank you for always being so accommodating and for providing a safe and fun environment! We will definitely be back again and again :) Jennifer D.

55Another awesome SniffSpot. The space is super private, some many curious smell. The grounds transition from concrete, brick, gravel, to pine bark mulch. There is a sandbox in the more private, gated pen, too. All terrific for pooches. I found myself enticing Tessdog to sniff all out. Oh, toys! Tess is a quick toy lover. There is an indestructible red pencil that challenged and won over TessDog. And then there is the chase toy on a stick, SquishyFace. I took picks. I have to find, too. Just the best.
Thank you, Nancy. We did not meet but
I am with you in spirit. 🧡🐕🧡Teresa R.

FAQ about our Bedford Park dog parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 95% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Bedford Park area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 375 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 49 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can also filter locations to avoid other domestic animals and people. We also recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions.
