What a fantastic place to walk around and explore. My two little dogs, 8 and 14 lbs, loved being able to be off leash without worrying about bumping into other dogs. We'll definitely be back!

Enjoyed coming here again, was initially a little wary seeing campers right by the entrance, but thankfully it didn’t seem like they had any dogs with them. My dog’s current obsession is ground squirrels, so this place is perfect for her. I did hear a couple of shots fired as well as the train going through, but it didn’t spook my dog.

We had the best day!! My highly reactive, highly energetic dog was able to be off leash for the first time and I can’t say how grateful we are! It’s was awesome to see her so happy and free. There’s so much space to roam! The host was very communicative and gave lots of details about the area. There were a few folks here and there getting some work done. Everyone was kind and let us do our thing! I highly recommend this spot and we will be going again!

I am always grateful that we can access such an awesome space! The HipCamp area is pretty packed this time of year, so I really appreciate how accommodating Alton is so we can still access and enjoy the SniffSpot. We did encounter some HipCampers entering the rented portion of the property on ATVs and four wheelers, so if you have a dog that’ll chase/follow vehicles or is reactive, you may want to keep that in mind when renting the area!

It was a nice and hot day to go, and so we opted to go to the alt. entrance on Primrose with earlier access to the water. We went the lower path but beware it is particularly weedy this time of the year and there is some branches on the path from the windstorm! My boy had an excellent time swimming, but still bring lots of water because it is hot if you are out for more than an hour. I booked for 2 hours, but left about 30 minutes early because my boy was already tuckered out from adventuring. My only warning is beware of livestock animals in the distance (not on main property, but they are close enough for dogs to see) and wildlife! On our way out, my dog almost/minorly scrapped with what I think was a badger - so just be aware for those prey driven dogs! Otherwise great spot and it is beautiful this time of year!

I’m always pretty happy with the time we get to spend here! It got pretty hot this summer so we had to take a break and go to shadier places because this area is pretty exposed. Now that it’s getting cooler again, we can enjoy the space and area without any concern! Farm work is still being done but we’re always happy to give a wide berth and enjoy a different section of the property!

My dogs and I had a great time. We had a leisurely walk at the end of a long day in the car. We (I) did some bird watching and generally relaxed. My only advice is to make sure you have a solid recall or keep your dog on a long line. One of my dogs did great, the other blew me off to go critter hunting.

Had yet another enjoyable experience on this property! Griffyn had a blast hopping through the grass chasing mice (probably just finding grasshoppers though 😂). My favorite part about this property have been the variety of birds I’ve gotten to see throughout our visits! It’s been pretty common to spot various birds of prey which is always cool, but my all time favorites have been the sand hill cranes and grey partridges we’ve spotted lately! We also found someone’s debit card, likely fallen out while they came to visit with their dog, so we placed it somewhere and informed the owner. If you’re missing one reach out to the owner about where it’s located!

Really enjoyed it!! Be aware, you might come across people working or wildlife (but that’s anywhere in Montana!). Absolutely beautiful, great water access, huge property. My reactive dogs had a blast

I just had a minor procedure done this week and wasn’t feeling 100% so I wanted to take my dog somewhere to give him a physical outlet while letting me relax a bit, so the SniffSpot was a perfect choice! There are a lot of Canadian Geese and Sandhill Crane flocking in the fields, so if your dog is interested in chasing birds it might be good to avoid those areas! My dog doesn’t mind them, so it was fun playing fetch near them (but not disturbing them, until I threw the frisbee a little too far and they had to relocate lmao) so I got to do some bird watching at the same time! We did have some HipCampers come onto the property, but they seemed to have left and went back to their campsite once they saw us. If you’re worried about your dog around people, that might be something to keep in mind and plan accordingly!

This is a wonderful place to walk for humans as well as dogs. Since it's on a hilltop the mountain views are spectacular and with such a large acreage there's plenty of room for dogs to run. It's very peaceful to be the only one out there, just me and my dogs during my time space. One of my dogs is reactive with other dogs so it's been a lifesaver for me. The dogs and I love it! What a gorgeous morning! We saw a coyote this morning! Far enough away that our dog didn’t see it but we called her to us anyway and held her till it trotted out of sight. We absolutely love this place.

Such a beautiful space! Like mentioned, it is quite expansive, so I kept my overly confident runner on a long lead. She still had a great time frolicking with her sisters through the tall grasses. We’ll definitely be back! :)

Beautiful area. Road very accessible in summer when dry or if frozen (like today) and definitely year round if you have a 4x4. Not sure how well a small 2-wd car would do during spring thaw as road looks like it could get soft. Area itself is gorgeous. Exactly what my girls and I needed after a hectic Christmas. There was a small herd of cattle within the area, but they are very respectful of humans/dogs as long as humans/dogs are respectful of them. We diverted away from the herd (as I didn't want to chance an interaction) and went down a road to the water trough to find a single heifer. She was as curious about my dogs as they were of her, but their leave-it command is solid and there were no issues, but something to be aware of. I will be back!

If you don’t have a car that’s good in the snow, I would not attempt the drive! We did just fine in our AWD vehicle, but the snow is piling up on the road to the hip camp and could be an issue for others! Otherwise, we had a blast playing in the snow! Always a fan favorite to come by!
