Expansive Private Seclusion, a Dog's Dream

We are just west of Missoula with over 300 acres of wetland, hills, trees, fields, and streams. The north and south ends of the property have restrooms and there is so much to explore! Tons of things for dogs to sniff: ground squirrel holes, cow pies, animal tracks, etc. For the humans: we don’t spray chemicals and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a spot like this. Views of the M and the mountains surrounding the Grass Valley like you’ve never seen! We have a campground here if you want to stay over just message us and we’ll tell you how to book, we are pumped to offer a space for people to recreate with their dogs. If you have an old/anxious/shy/small dog this is your place, let them run around and have fun without the stress of aggressive or untrained dogs at the local parks! This is such an awesome and worry-free place to take the dogs! We had a great time! The amenities with the vault toilet and picnic tables near the gate are an absolute bonus- book some extra time to hang out, eat a snack and enjoy the views. You won’t find a gem like this anywhere else! Thank you for sharing your land with us, Alton!

Google maps made it a little difficult to find. The turn (off Moccasin) is just a road north of Gowan(where Google maps thinks you should turn) Once we found the place, It was nice to meander through the fields and take in the views and not worry about our dogs being off leash. They had a frolicking good time! Will do again!

It was a little hard to find with no clear signs pointing to the campground after the initial turn but we made it!! I would not recommend in the winter if you don’t have 4WD as the campground road was not plowed by our 11:30am appointment. There wasn’t any heads up about this and we had to drive up some hills in quite a bit of snow. My 4wd suv made it up no problem. The property itself was wonderful and having the entire place to ourself was a relief for my dogs! Lots of spots to roam and run! I would also note that your dog isn’t complete secure in the property so good recall or a leashed walk is important! Overall super pleased with the spot and privacy and will definitely be back!

We had a great time romping around the fields and playing fetch. Very open and pretty. Also liked that the bathroom was open this time of year. We even saw a few eagles. We will definitely be back!

So nice to have a place close to Missoula where my sometimes reactive dog can run off leash and we don’t have to worry about running into people. We spent an hour and walked out and back and saw only a small part of the property. Looking forward to doing a longer visit next time. Pretty views and easy walking on a flat dirt road.

Wonderful spot! Pretty intense sun, but we had a blast. Nice walk on a single track dirt road! Take note, if you have a long haired dog… you’ll have to pluck lots of little burrs off haha

Came up the Mullan entrance and was easy to find with the well-explained directions! There wasn’t enough water to romp in, but it was a very pretty trail that went around the property and led up to the main field. Lots of room to sniff, run, play, and train! Really was good to train our dog to recall of distractions (cattle)! 1.5-2hours is perfect to play and explore the entire property!

We had a great time walking the spacious land. It was a joy for my pup. He tired out pretty quickly! I loved seeing him being able to roam freely and safely. We will be back when in Missoula again. Thank you for offering your farmland to the community. I hope people respect it :)

Just as good as the other dozen times I’ve been here, it’s one of our favorite spots! With the weather warming up I usually prep with extra water and cooling gear since the area is so exposed to the sun, but there was a lovely breeze today! We did come across a jeep with two men and a dog while we were out on the property. This threw me off because I don’t usually expect to see other people while we’re out since we use this area to relax and not have to worry about other people/dogs. We left a little early today but hope to book again sometime this weekend to enjoy the spot some more!

Stunning views and seemingly endless fields for the dogs to run. We weren’t able to locate the water station, so make sure you bring some water for your pups. They’ll be pretty thirsty by the end.

This is such a great spot for my german shepherds! We do regular walks here now and it’s enjoyable for me too. Lots of bird watching opportunities along the creek and no worrying about other people or dogs crossing paths. Some livestock in the far distance at the beginning of the property but the ground squirrels are usually more exciting for my pups and it keeps them from showing too much interest. 10/10, will be back again lots!

Great spot to roam with the dogs! There are some cows on the adjacent property so we had to leash the dogs during that point since they’re reactive but was a quick section of the trail. It’s nice they have a bathroom and water available as well. Host was very responsive even though he was out of town at the time.

Such a fun outing! There are lots of cool plants and birds to observe this time of year. We did see a coyote on the property this time around. Keep that in mind and prepare accordingly if you have a snack sized dog or a dog with a high prey drive that might take chase!

We love this sniff spot! I bring my pack of shepherds here frequently and it’s always a great time. For the entrance with water off primrose, It’s important you stay leashed until you enter the trail if your pup won’t handle cows nearby well. Once in the trail, we don’t ever see any other livestock (except far in the distance/across the water there are some cows and a dog that will bark- but they are really far away and my dogs have no interest). The water is a great addition and my dogs love running in and out of it. Some areas do have a foul odor, and if your dog finds those spots, you may need to hit the dog wash after. I wouldn’t recommend letting your dog drink the water in the areas that you can smell the odor as this will likely upset their tummy like it did for mine. But still, best sniff spot in missoula and we will always be back!

About a year ago my dog Bear got attacked by multiple dogs at an off leash park. I’ve been scared to go to any off leash parks since then- but I knew that I needed to find a way to safely exercise him off leash. I cannot even put into words how perfect this property is. This is the first time I’ve felt relaxed walking my dogs. It’s a very peaceful feeling knowing that we won’t run into anyone. The property is huge, well maintained, peaceful, and beautiful. I highly recommend paying a visit!

Are dog fields safe?

If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, distracted dog owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private space for just you and doggy friends you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). Especially for training, privacy is ideal. How do I know if a dog field works for my dog?

All park rental information is available online. Start by filtering parks by fencing, size and distractions, to find a private spot that works for your dog. If your dog has poor recall, you can visit one of our secure fields. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog fields where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can review the details of the listing to make sure it works as your desired activity space, for example, safe dog exercise, dog training, a stress-free adventure with your furry friend or even a puppy event. You can even check the park amenities chart for amenities such as indoor training facilities, agility field, synthetic turf, exercise balls or field parking availability in advance. If inclement weather is an issue or poor field conditions, you can reschedule your visit up to 2 hours in advance.

What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?

We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?

No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
