55Great to have this space close to me! We didn't get much past the first open area because my dogs aren't into exploring as much as chasing balls for hours. Water was provided, as well as waste bags and toys. I was slightly concerned about the space being unfenced because we don't have distraction-tested recall, but we didn't encounter any issues. 55The road to the spot is gravel and curvy and I would definitely recommend wearing boots or tall socks. But the views were beautiful and our pup had a great time! We'll definitely be coming back! Colleen K.

55Today my dogs wanted to explore more, so we went up to the top of the hill. The view is just beautiful. I felt relaxed and calm, while the dogs chased balls across the field. I suggest taking water just in case, as there was very little left for us at 10 am. Fortunately, we live close enough that it wasn't an issue.
Please be vigilant about cleaning up after your dogs at all Sniffspots-there really is no excuse. Shannon R.

55Nice spot. Close to Salem for a quick stop to tire the dogs out. I couldn't quite tell where the boundaries were. I'd recommend maybe putting a Google maps of the border on the entry pics. There's a cool spot in the tree stand. The tomatoes are absolutely delicious so take a couple extra bucks. Carey Z.

55We had such an amazing time at this Sniffspot! The property was absolutely beautiful, with wide open fields for our dog to let loose with his zoomies, plus a peaceful, tree-filled area for exploring. We asked the host ahead of time if we could bring our kitty along, and she was incredibly sweet and said yes without hesitation. Our cat loved the adventure too! It was the perfect, private getaway for both of our pets to enjoy. We can’t wait to come back!Ben C.

55We visited for the first time today and will definitely book again. Fantastic location and our girls had so much space to run and let loose. Great place for dogs to explore. Sally is a super hostess with readily available water, toys and poop bins. There are in inclines to walk, but chairs set up for quick breaks. Gorgeous views at the top. All around great experience. 55Great spot! In addition to our dog loving the spacious terrain, there was a fantastic sitting area under the pine trees, and if you are up for the hike up the hill in back you can catch a fantastic sunset view from the Adirondack chairs up top! Abigail H.

55Such a beautiful spot with lots of room to run and explore. Some sections of the field have quite a few blackberry bushes growing at grass height but the exterior paths are mowed. Ashley S.

55We come here frequently because it’s awesome! Penny knows exactly where we are headed when we get in the car and puts on her happy feet. It has enough space where she can run to her hearts content and it’s great exercise for everyone. It is uneven ground, so you must pay attention when walking. Beautiful views, close to home, 10/10! Will keep coming back. Dawn J.

55A beautifully chill visit to Sassy Fox Farm this afternoon. This spot never disappoints. Zane enjoys "picking" out a ball prior to heading up the hill. I was also able to pick up some fresh eggs today, they are the very best! Margie T.

55We really enjoyed our visit! We weren't entirely certain we were in the right place until we turned in through the gate and saw the little hut full of dog toys (which is adorable!) that's pictured in the access photos, because the address in SniffSpot didn't correspond to the house number that's visible just before the gate where you turn in. Once in, though, it was obvious we were in the right place, clear where to park, and fairly clear where to walk. The property is very open to the adjoining properties, so your dog must have good recall or remain on leash.
We saw no dogs, but some small farm animals (goats, poultry, etc) were visible from certain areas. They were in their own fenced area, but if your dog gets overexcited about other critters, you might want to stay clear of that area or keep them leashed.
My dog had a wonderful time racing up and down the hill and bounding through the longer grass. There's a lovely area through the trees with seating and a garbage can for poop bags, as well as two seats at the top of the hill. We had a few minutes at the end of our booking, so I borrowed a ball and chuck-it arm from the hut at the entrance, and we played for a bit. She had a wonderful time and slept like a stone afterwards.
The property is very pretty, and the view from the top of the hill is lovely. The ground is quite rough and pitted in places, and there's a fair amount of wildlife feces (mostly deer, which is to be expected in an area like this), so wear good, solid hiking boots or similar. There are quite a lot of brambles, and my dog picked up several small cuts and stuck thorns while bouncing around like a demented kangaroo. This didn't bother her at all - I checked her feet and legs every few minutes, pulled out any thorns, and she bled a little bit for a couple of minutes but was totally undeterred from having a fantastic time. If your dog is more sensitive to that sort of thing, you may want to bring booties for them or keep them close to you to help them avoid the brambles.
Overall, a great place for a dog with good recall to go for a very tiring run! And it's very close to Sass Winery if you fancy a wine tasting experience afterwards.Heather R.

55Nice afternoon for a walk on the woods and fields of Sassy Fox Farms. Yes, it was a little wet out, but the fresh scent of the outdoors, the trees and soggy soil cannot be beat. Zany decided on a little snowman toy for our walk today. He brought it back soaked but intact, and a bit muddy. Margie T.

FAQ about our Salem dog hiking trails
Are dog hiking trails safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than a city or county park. All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars.
