Greyhounds Unlimited was founded in 1991 in Fort Worth, Texas by Hope Combest and several dedicated volunteers. As with most fledgling non-profits, we started small. However, it quickly became clear that we could acquire and adopt many more greyhounds than our small foster kennel could house.
Over the years, Greyhounds Unlimited has become more of a residential foster home-based organization. This means our volunteers foster any number of rescued greyhounds in their private homes until the dogs are placed in permanent homes. We have found using a residential foster home is the most effective means of ensuring that retired racing greyhounds become acclimated to a home environment prior to their adoption.
Our organization covers the north to central Texas areas. If you are not in our area, please call 1-800-GHOUNDS (1-800-446-8637) to find a greyhound rescue group in your area.
Greyhounds Unlimited has no paid staff. We are strictly a volunteer-run organization. All volunteers donate their time and energy at no cost.
We take a neutral stand on greyhound racing.

ADOPTION GUIDELINES
Important guidelines you agree to follow if you adopt a greyhound
1. Your greyhound is always kept on leash whenever it is outdoors, unless in a totally fenced area.
2. Identification tags must be kept on your greyhound at all times, stating the greyhound's home address and phone number as well as the Greyhounds Unlimited tag.
3. Your greyhound must be kept indoors except when getting walks, exercise or eliminating.
4. Your greyhound must never be tied to anything.
5. You understand that your greyhound has not been raised in a home environment and will need time and patience to adjust. You will never discipline your greyhound by hitting him/her.
6. You agree to keep your greyhound up-to-date on all necessary shots and medical needs.
7. You agree to keep your greyhound as a pet and never use it for racing, breeding, or laboratory research.
8. If your greyhound should be missing for any reason, you agree to call Greyhounds Unlimited, the police, and animal control immediately.
9. If for any reason, you decide you cannot keep your greyhound, you will return him/her to Greyhounds Unlimited, who will then find a suitable home.
10. You agree to allow a Greyhounds Unlimited representative to follow up with phone calls and/or visits.
ABOUT ADOPTION

Adoption Requirements
All greyhounds adopted through THE GREYHOUND RESCUE SOCIETY OF TEXAS, INC. are spayed or neutered and have been given their annual set of shots. Each dog has been tested for heartworms and is currently on heartworm preventative. Your newly adopted greyhound will come with a Premier leash and collar (specially designed for the greyhounds), a GU identification tag and a greyhound muzzle. The adopter must agree to keep their greyhound free of parasites, properly vaccinated, on heartworm preventative and indoors. If your greyhound is to be mainly an outside dog, we recommend you choose another type of dog to adopt. They have little body fat causing them to become extremely cold in the winter and too hot in the summer - a good rule of thumb is if you are uncomfortable, they are too. Also because greyhounds are extremely social, they prefer to be inside with their owners. Being a sight hound, a greyhound must never be off his leash in an unenclosed area; for this reason it is much easier if you have an enclosed yard for his daily exercise and to relieve him/herself. However, with daily walks they also adjust very well into apartments/condominiums.
Effective June 19, 2024 our adoption fees have changed to the new fee structure below.
• Greyhounds under the age of 8 is $500.00 + 41.25 (8.25% sales tax) = $541.25
• Greyhounds which are 8 years and up, is $450.00 + 37.13 (8.25% sales tax) = $487.13
There is a two-week trial period in which you can return the greyhound and receive a 50% refund; however, after the two weeks your adoption fee will not be returned.

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors.
