Lone Star Labrador Retriever Rescue (Lone Star Lab Rescue) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all volunteer organization, dedicated to saving purebred Labrador Retrievers from euthanasia in city shelters throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Quick Facts About Lone Star Labrador Rescue 1. Our primary purpose is to re-home neglected or abandoned Labradors in safe and loving homes. 2. We do not have a shelter for potential adopters to visit. All of our dogs are placed into foster homes prior to adoption. They live as members of our family. 3. The majority of our dogs are between the ages of 1 and 5 years. 4. It is rare that we have puppies in our rescue. 5. All of our dogs are temperament tested and evaluated for suitability and re-homing potential. 6. LSLRR is made up entirely of volunteers who all share a love for Labs. We do not receive any payment for our time - we all work full time and "do rescue" after hours. Please be patient when asking for a reply. 7. Many of our dogs do not have formal obedience training - which is why training is part of our adoption contract. 8. If you have found a stray Labrador, please see "I just found a dog!" We are unable to accept a found Lab until ALL attempts to locate the dog's owner have been exhausted. Lone Star Labrador Retriever Rescue is also committed to educating the public about responsible dog ownership. We believe that responsible pet owners spay or neuter their animals, keep them on an annual vaccination program, provide heart worm and flea preventative on a year round basis, provide basic training, and maintain their dogs as “inside” members of the family rather than as “outside” yard dogs.

Adoption Policy

First, look over the Labs on our Available Labs page to see if any of our Labradors are what you are looking for. If you are seriously interested in adopting a Labrador, please fill out an Adoption Application. We cannot consider placing a dog with you until we receive your application and have a chance to review it. Next Steps After You Submit An Online Adoption Application... Once you submit your online Adoption Application, it will be emailed to us. Once received, it will be reviewed to determine if your home is a good match for this breed. We will send you an email to let you know your application has been reviewed, so please ensure you provide us an email address on your application. Upon review of your application, we will talk to you about your family and what kind of temperament and activity level you are looking for in a Lab. Please keep an open mind! Take our advice and recommendations on which of our Labs would be best in your home. We know our dogs best. If we have a Lab in our program that seems to fit your environment and family, we will suggest you that and your family schedule an appointment to meet the Lab at a convenient place or the foster home. Once you have met a Lab that seems to be a good fit for your family, a home visit will be scheduled. If at all possible, we will bring the specific Lab that you are interested in adopting with us to the home visit. If a home study is not scheduled at the Meet and Greet, a volunteer will contact you to make arrangements. The purpose of the home study is for the volunteer to come out to your house to see if it is a suitable place for a rescued Labrador and fits with your family’s lifestyle. Depending on the Labrador’s temperament, you must have either a fenced yard (majority of the cases) or have close access to a dog park and/or be willing to walk/jog daily with the Lab. Please understand that we do NOT work on a “first come, first served” basis. Our primary focus is to find the very best home for each specific Labrador. We work hard to make sure that each Lab is happy in his home and every family member in your family is happy with your new Labrador too! Adoption Requirements... We are extremely cautious about placing Labs with small children. We rarely have much history on our rescued Labs and do not know how they will do with young children. We generally prefer that all children in an adoptive home be a minimum of 6 years old. A good rule of thumb is that the child be taller than the dog. In general, adult Labs ( 3+ yrs) are calmer & more laid back, so we can consider placing them with younger children. We will consider adopting a Lab to families with younger children, provided the children have lived with a large dog in their home in the past. We do not place puppies in homes with kids under the age of 10. • LSLRR will not place dogs in homes where unaltered (neither spayed nor neutered) pets reside. • All LSLRR Labs will be kept primarily “inside” as companion dogs and members of the family. The Lab will not be kept outside when the adopter is away from home. • Depending on the temperament of the specific Lab, adopters must agree to crate their dog inside the house for as long as recommended, to ensure the safety of both the dog and the house. • Adopters will provide regular veterinary care and annual vaccinations by a licensed veterinarian. • Adopters will keep their dogs on heartworm prevention year round, and flea & tick prevention as needed. • Adopters must have a securely fenced yard or play area. In general, a 6' fence is preferred. Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis. • All dogs must wear an ID tag at ALL times. • All dogs in the adoptive home must be spayed or neutered. • Adopters must live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. (Dallas, Denton, Collin and Tarrant counties) • The primary adopter must be at least 21 years old. Our Dogs... All LSLRR Labs are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered if age appropriate, current on all vaccinations and taking heartworm prevention. Each dog will receive fecal and heartworm tests, and will have been treated if necessary, for internal parasites such as hookworms or tapeworms. If a dog tests positive for heartworms, it will be treated. Documentation of all medical care and vaccinations will be provided to the adopter. LSLRR dogs live in a home environment with a foster family. Fosters will do basic crate training, obedience training, and socialize the dog. Fosters make every effort to evaluate the dog's personality and temperament. This makes it easier to match each rescue dog with a prospective adopter's family. The foster will share all known information with the prospective adopter, including medical records. Our Labs are micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and treated for any health issues. To help cover these medical costs, our adoption fee is $295.00 ($395.00 for puppies that come into our program at 6 months old and younger) (plus tax). Please understand that this fee rarely covers the medical care that we provide. Any donations above the adoption fee are greatly appreciated and tax deductible!

He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii.
