Take Me Home Pet Rescue (TMHPR), located in Richardson, TX, is a 100% nonprofit organization committed to reducing our homeless pet overpopulation. All rescued dogs and cats are sterilized, microchipped, and provided with necessary medical care, before being adopted. Reference checks and home visits are completed ensuring a good fit. Our rescued pets live in foster homes until adopted to experience the love of a “real family” while waiting for their very own forever homes.
In Summer 2020 we moved into our new Pet Adoption Center. It is located at 580 W Arapaho Rd Suite 433, Richardson, Texas 75080. The Center is our main office, a place to store supplies, and it also provides us a place to hold our weekend adoption events.
Each dog and cat receives individualized and appropriate medical care. Of course each pet is also sterilized, vaccinated, wormed, and microchipped. We often must provide heart worm treatment, fix orthopedic fractures, and repair internal injuries. Pregnant or nursing dogs and cats are also often accepted into our program.
Our overall goal is to be sure the pet is healthy, sterilized, and a good match for the potential adopter in an effort to reduce any chance that the pet will be returned. All potential adopters are carefully screened to be sure that the personality and energy level of both the pet and pet family are a good fit.
Take Me Home Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization
Adoption Policy
Our adoption process is simple and straight-forward:
DISCOVER
First, view our Dogs and Cats on this website, Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or our Facebook page. Please note: we only adopt to the Dallas and surrounding areas as we require a home visit with every adoption.
APPLY
To meet one of our pets, please complete and submit our online Cat or Dog Adoption Application. The form does not obligate you to adopt. Home visits will not be completed without full vet and/or reference checks. Adoption counselors will reply to your application as soon as possible to guide you to the next step. Please Note: All Applicants/Adopters must be 21 years of age or older
FALL IN LOVE
Once you have submitted the online application and it has been reviewed by our TMHPR Adoption Team, you will be contacted to schedule a time to meet the pet. This will most likely occur during our weekly Saturday Meet & Greet at our Pet Adoption Center between 10 am – 1 pm; or during another time, mutually agreed upon. You will have an opportunity to speak with the foster family to learn more details about the pet.
HOME VISIT/DELIVERY OF PET
Before the home visit the prospective adopter will be provided with a list of supplies they need to have on hand before the pet is delivered. Depending on the circumstances the home visit may be complete prior to the pet being delivered. Or, the pet may be delivered during the home visit. The Adoption Counselor and Home Visit Coordinator will work with you on the details. During the home visit, a member of the TMHPR Home Visit Team will conduct a home safety review, including a fence/gate check to ensure that your fence is secure and locked, and will point out any other potential hazards to your new pet. (The fence/gate check applies to dog home visits only.) You will then complete the Pet Adoption Contract and the adoption fee is collected.
SETTLING IN
Once the pet is in your home, the 10 day trial period begins. During these next 10 days you will have the opportunity to see if you, your family and your new pet are a good match. Our fosters and Adoption Counselors are happy to work with you during this time period to answer questions or help with the transition.
FINALIZING
After your 10-day trial period has been completed, you will be contacted by email requesting confirmation that you want to make the pet a permanent part of your family. If yes, we will transfer the microchip into your name using the contact information you provided on the Adoption Contract. If you do not wish to adopt the pet we will return your fee in exchange for the pet.
We require that the pet ALWAYS be returned to TMHPR if there is ever a circumstance that you can no longer care for the pet. This is a part of the TMHPR contract that will be completed.

We encourage all adoptive pet parents to send us updates, pictures and videos of their new family members so that we can share the good news with our community. Watch our Facebook page and Instagram Feed for Happy Tail adoption updates.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
