55Country retreat for the pups! They loved getting to run and play and smell all the things. Very private and we even heard some roosters off in the distance. :) We will be back for sure, and next time with a picnic lunch as well!Jaqulyn G.

55A little tricky to find by street address - Apple Maps missed by about half a mile, but Google Maps finally delivered us right to the driveway. My pups had a great time chasing balls in the large pasture and traipsing through mud puddles by the creek. The only suggestion I have would be a trash receptacle of some kind to dispose of bagged dog waste. Otherwise Raleigh and Becca give this place 5 stars!Silke M.

55We had an amazing time here! My dog is extremely fearful of pretty much everything you could think of and doesn’t get to enjoy the outdoors much as a result. It was so nice to have a large natural spot to explore free of stress. Apple Maps took us to the wrong place, but google maps was correct. Lane E.

55I am hesitant to write this review because I don’t want it to get to crowded but to be fair, this is an AWESOME spot. 6 of 5 stars. I went there for a quick preview today. We will be going back with my frisbee focused; ball focus border collies. I wasn’t concerned that it wasn’t fully fenced and it seemed quite safe. They loved it. Although you are not supposed to show up early I recommend going with 10 extra minutes AND using Google directions, not Apple. Then, when you get there there is no marker with the address so it’s pretty clear but would be great to have some confirmation you’re in the right place. I texted the host and she was quick about responding. Also, make sure you bring some water if you don’t want them to drink surface water because there’s an area they can get into standing water. It’s pretty basic, but an amazing spot. I recommend an after-play excursion to Phils seafood. We’re going backDeirdre S.

55Finding the location with Google Maps takes you exactly at the entrance, but it took some time to figure that out because the driveway was hard to see. Make sure to take a look at the pictures the host posted, drawing out the directions from the main road. I parked in the dirt shoulder, so that I didn't have to drive up and down the dirt driveway. There is a trash bin at the beginning of the trail which is very convenient.
This Sniffspot is a lovely cut of land with diverse plant species. It feels like you're immersed in nature. Once in a while, we heard what sounded like cows mooing. A part of the trail towards the pasture is through some mud, so keep that in mind if you don't want your pups paws muddy.
There were horses at the other side of the fence where the pasture is with gaps wide enough for dogs to walk through. My dog has great recall so it wasn't a problem. If that may be a problem for you, the land is big enough with a hill and tons of trees that you can have your dog explore without seeing them.
You can hear some dogs barking a little in the distance, but it wasn't constant and was once in a while. We also saw a woman coming into the property from where the horses were, but she left us alone and went to a shed.
I booked it for another hour because of how much my dog loved exploring the tall grass and sniffing the gopher holes. He let out all his zoomies running up and down the pasture. He knocked out when I got home.
I will love to come back to this spot when I have the time. Charity K.

55My two dogs had an absolute blast running around and sniffing everything. They are both leash reactive and finding a spot without dogs is such a relief. We did see a horse in the pasture next to us and the fence was not secured so my dogs could have gotten to the horse if they wanted. That being said, I would recommend being careful if your dog doesn't have good recall. Otherwise, property was great! No address posted at driveway entrance, but google maps correctly directs you there. We will definitely be back! Ilene W.

55We had so much fun!! We had my Golden, Aussie and Chihuahua, and all three enjoyed it equally! Your dogs need to come to you on command as there is a road and adjacent private property nearby, but the owner is super open about the partial fencing in the description. This is a favorite spot for sure!!! Thank you Dawn!!😁🐾🌺DBF C.

55Exactly as described. We kept our high energy dog on a long lead because it would have been really easy for her to cross property lines. Strong recall/a long line is a must here! There are so many different types of places for your dog to sniff/explore. Can’t wait to come back when the grass isn’t dead! Keats I.

FAQ about our Castroville dog parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 95% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Castroville area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 40 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 9 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby.
