55It was our first time using this app to find a safe space for Teddy to explore and train without worrying about any of his anxiety triggers. There was a private entrance so we could go in without bumping into anyone else. No issues with parking either - on the street right in front of the house.
They had a spacious yard with a tree in the middle and shrubs along part of the wooden fence so my pup could smell and explore. There were some neighbors on the other side (for a party, I think) but it was high enough so he couldn't see them. It was also good practice for Teddy to learn that strangers doesn't always mean bad people.
There's some concrete tiles right in front of the tree as well so we had variety of places for him to train :)Nancy L.

55Had a great time. Prepare to get wet feet and bring extra socks and shoes. It was a nice little walk down the stream. The listing made it seem like it would hard to find but it really wasn’t. Water is relatively safe and clean. No algae present at all which is a win for any natural water this area this time of year. I’m reviewing this a day later to confirm for the fellow OCD dog owners like myself that my dog was safe! The only real concern was some silt that shimmered in the sun (but it’s a river. Your dog is gonna get muddy lol)Jes K.

55This place is great! Plenty of space to run around and our dogs loved the water. Really good if your dogs love water but are not strong swimmers. Thank you for opening your spot to us! Rowina L.

55We had a lot of fun taking my super reactive dog here , even though she didnt want to swim she had a lot of fun running around. Although i would say it'd be smart to carry around a pet first aid kit just in case she did hurt her back paw on a rock when she slipped but she was also not watching where she was going. I would love to rent out the space for a longer time and maybe bring snacks to enjoy the time here. We did have a bit of trouble finding the spot but once we did the way down is pretty doable even my grandpa made it down slowly but without falling.miriam c.

55Very cool hidden treasure! All of us enjoyed this peaceful, beautiful, serene piece of private property. Very clean and well groomed. Our fur babies explored, climbed, swam and sniffed their little nose off. Definitely will be back. Thank you Tammy, for sharing your place with us!
What a blessing to have that piece of paradise on your property, God Bless!

55The swimming hole was great!
Tammy was available by phone when I wasn't quite sure where the trailhead was. Her directions in the reservation are very accurate. Turns out, I just didn't read them carefully enough, so I didn't drive far enough.
The spot itself is as avertised. It's rustic and secluded, and there's a large wooden deck with two chairs, which could accommodate a much larger group than just myself. I didn't use the fire pit, but that's a nice option for next time.
The swimming hole is large enough for my Golden Retriever to swim around in and play water fetch with a ball. The water felt really cold, so I didn't go all the way in, but it would be great for really hot days. Still perfect for my Golden Retriever so he didn't overheat while playing so much. My feet aren't used to walking on rocks, so I wore some flip flops into the water.
The only cons, which no one has control over, are the loud motorcycles that pass by on the nearby road and the prickly seeds that got tangled in the hair of my other dog, who must have walked through some brush. Took me an hour to pick them all out when I got home. =/
I definitely plan to return with some friends from my dog park and do more of a picnic plus doggy playtime.

55A little out of the way, but it's now definitely one of my favorite spots. I was able to hike down the little trail with my dog off-leash, which would have caused anxiety and worry of running into other dogs and people if it was anywhere else than this reserved spot. The forest is so stimulating with all the smells, and there are areas for your dog to swim around. Bring a towel!
There is a large deck and 2 chair near the river next to a fireplace with some logs in it. There is also a lighter if you don't have one.
The spot is far enough downhill from the road but you can hear the cars from the road/bridge when you walk downstream. However, there aren't many cars that pass and it's barely noticeable. There are also a lot of rocks when you walk downstream, so bring the appropriate footwear.
It is not fenced, but not a worry for my dog who doesn't run more than a few feet away from me and it's at the bottom of the hills, so easy for your dog to stay within the area. If your dog is prone to running away, despite the incline, you may need to put a tracker on your dog so you wont lose him if he runs into the forest.
My dog and I had such a great time. I would be going so much if it wasn't so far off the road, but it was worth the drive. The directions were very helpful in finding the location. Charity K.

55We had so much fun at this spot! I was initially worried about letting our dogs off-leash. While they know the recall command, they sometimes get too excited to listen in high-stimulation environments. But the calm and peaceful setting there worked well, and the 20-ft leash we brought wasn’t necessary. Also, Tammy was helpful and provided useful tips.
The dogs loved the cold water, tried a bit of swimming, and did lots of sniffing around. The spot was clean and cozy, making it a pleasant experience for all of us.
Just a note—there’s no garbage disposal, so be prepared to take your dog’s waste back with you. Also, from the parking area to the spot, there’s a steep dirt slope that was a bit slippery. If I had to manage two leashed dogs in both hands, it might have been a bit tough.
Overall, it was a 1-hour drive well worth the experience. We had a good time and might come back again!Holly Y.

55Parking spot was not hard to find based on information provided. The walk down can be a bit steep for some, really appreciated the rail! Will point out that the we came from the East bay and the drive after the freeway was very winding, which is not great for someone with motion sickness 😅. Definitely agree on bringing extra shoes or even water shoes! Overall a great spot, would even recommend to people who want to get their dog accustomed to being in the water, which is why I brought my dog here. Maria A.

55Great spot, lovely area even. Recommend to wear walking or water shoes but flip flops are tough to navigate the trail with. On the way in you're going downhill. Lots of smells, grass to eat, and creeks to splash in. Our husky mix loved running back and forth across the creek! Cortney D.

55Best spot for shy dogs to explore the nature! Very private and my dog enjoyed swimming the the creek. The little trail going down from the highway is steep so make sure you wear hiking shoes not flip flops.
My dog had lot of fun running around and the humans got to grill some marshmallows on the fire pit. We will be back :-)Qi H.

55This spot was great. My dog had a blast! Very clear directions on how to find the spot. Not too far from Alice’s restaurant (dog friendly) so a nice bonus. The trail down is short but a bit challenging in one spot. However, the host put in a nice handrail to help. When you get to that, this might be a good spot to let your dog run the rest of the way down off Ieash or long lead. Definitely doable though! The spot was clean, as described, lovely! Plenty of space to let my dog swim, sniff, and run (so excited he got a case of the Zoomies 😆 and just ran in circles for a bit). I walked up and down the creek with my dog while he explored (use waterproof hikers or water shoes due to rocks in creek). Felt like it was plenty of space for us. He would try to run up the canyon walls at times, but he’s a husky (they are born wanderers) and they were high enough that I could call him back and he’d come running right back down so I never felt unsafe about it. Remember though, this is like a hike, not a dog park, you or someone in your group needs to keep an eye on them. Overall this place was a fantastic break for us from the city. I can’t recommend it enough! Theresa C.

FAQ about our Menlo Park dog parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 96% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Menlo Park area are 5 stars.
